250,000 including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. marched down woodward. wondering if anyone has pictures? He also stayed at the book cad while he was in town.

Thanks for the link, these images are fascinating. Cool to see MLK in Detroit. This image from Campus Martius is classic, dig the signs:

"LET'S MOVE TO GROSSE POINTE"
and
"Dearborn-KKK is Michigan's 'Mississippi' KKK"

Don't forget, the event commemorated 20 years since the 1943 race riot, in which dozens were killed, millions of dollars of property were destroyed, and the army was called in by Roosevelt. On 6-21-43, there were mobs of hundreds of white people beating black Detroiters to a pulp downtown.

Thats what I read in my research of George Edwards original manuscript but the web sites I have seen give other dates for some reason.
