I was wondering over the weekend...which cars are the most "Michigan" today? I'd like somehow, though our greater collective knowledge, to list all the remaining Michigan assembly plants and what products they are responsible for.

no, not orion. i forget where exactly - st louis i think? wherever the malibu is built. they are on the same platform though, so it's possible that could change in the future, should the aura really take off.

I'm pretty sure the Saturn Aura is built in Lansing. I could be wrong though.

kansas city, not st. louis. knew it was somewhere around that area of the country.

and they just announced they're cutting production and laying people off... not doing any better there either. probably will do better with the 08 malibu though.

I think the Aura is made in Kansas City, if I'm not mistaken.

Oops...I see Scott already replied.

Wixom does not make the Crown Vic- the Crown Vic & Grand Marquis are built in Ontario.

Wixom has only the Town Car, I believe the GT-40 and Thunderbird production there has ended. The plant is closing this year.

My wife has a new Aura and loves it. It deserves to do well.

Speaking as someone who drives a Japanese car, I think this is the kind of car the domestics need to start emulating.

Emulating something that is already on the road is a ticket to failure. Auto manufacturers are well along with work on their 2010 models. They are always trying to hit a moving target and the bar gets raised a little higher every year.

the new malibu builds on the sucess of the aura and exceeds it in every possible way. thats how GM should do things, year after year, models get better and better.

if GM built on the olds intrigue (last great american sedan) and applied those aspects and exceeded them on cars that followed (G6, Malibu, LaCrosse, Impala, etc) they would be in a much better posistion.

Yeah, I thought the GT was still there, but it looks like it's done for. My father recently retired early from Wixom this past year...40 years...they forced him out. He's not even 62 yet.
