Valentine's Day. Head to usual place, out on Michigan Avenue, where they have lots of cards, and ALWAYS have fresh Sanders candy. BOOM. Sally's Hallmark closed, boarded up, gone. DAMN. (I still miss Sanders having a store near Congress & Griswold.) PLEASE, somebody tell me where I can find Sanders stuff on the west side, or near downtown. I KNOW that some of you can assist me.

Not near downtown, but Sanders did reopen their store in Grosse Pointe (finally). That is the only one I know of.

Type "Sanders" into google. Their website is the first thing that shows up. The internet is not hard to use.

We went to the Grosse Pointe one and had a bittersweet sundae about three weeks ago. The only thing missing was the cone shaped paper cup, but it tasted the same as I remember. Ahhh there is nothing like a taste of hot fudge then the cold ice cream.

Sanders "stuff" can be found downtown at the Pure Detroit store [there is one in the Garfield bldg & one in the Ren Cen, also there's one in the Fisher bldg].

Had a hot fudge sundae at the Grosse Pointe store a couple of weeks ago, and yes, it was just as good as the old days. They sell all of the Sanders stuff too.

You can go to any Kroger and pick up Sanders ice cream toppings. You can get the candy by the pound at Hiller's Markets.

Thanks to all who provided assistance, other than the one person who just had to be a smart-ass about it. I know how to use the internet, but "googling" is not going to tell me about various places that sell Sanders merchandise, like Sally's used to, and Hiller's apparently does. Where is Hiller's?

Five Mile and Haggerty?? Ouch! Don't the ice cream melt by the time you get home?

I just looked em up, with the exception of Berkley, they are all out in the far flung burbs.
http://www.hillersmarkets.com/ locations.cfm

Even Berkley is too far for me to go shopping, I'll take the Farmer Jacks at Warren and Evergreen over that drive any day!

Yes, Morleys make Sanders.
jjaba remembers riding the Oakman Blvd. street car past the sleek new moderne Sanders Main Bakery on Oakman in Highland Park. We go way back.
jjaba's Sanders was Fenkell/Wyoming back before the John C. Lodge went in.

My Sanders was on Woodward between Davison and Waverly. Approximately 300 feet from my parents front door.

Yes it will.

If you would even bother to go to the Sanders site, you could click on the "Locations" link on the top of the page. This will take you to a page that has a box where you type in your zip code, and like magic all the stores that carry Sanders products will appear and they give you maps to the locations.
For example within a 10 mile radius of downtown (48201) you get the following:

There used to be a Sanders counter at the strip mall in west Dearborn at Michigan Ave and Outer Drive. It was horse-shoe shaped and i remember my mother taking me in there when I was little because she would have cream-puff cravings. Suffice to say, the little old ladies behind and in front of the counter used to pinch my cheeks alot and give me free sundaes...Now it's a god-forsaken Post Office.

Use to have an S.S. Kresge's there too, that later turned into a McCory's. Boston Cooler's, Brown Cow's, Chocolate Egg Creams, Vernor's and Vanilla...Now it's a bleepin' Staples.

(In frustration, he goes off to eat leftover Valentine's day candy...)

At one time I delivered fancy cookies from Johnny Mac's Cooky Factory to all the Sander's around Detroit. Including the one on Oakman Jjaba, which after the starting decline was owned by the Blue Bird Baking Company. How said it was to see that place turn into nothing but a small terminal to disperse baked goods and candies throughout the D.
