On numerous occasions he has stated he knows private parties that could expand or build a new Cobo with their own resources. Why hasn't this mystery person or group ever come forward? Will anyone in the local media ever call him out for his bs on this issue? |

I thought his mysterious group was a potential (additional) casino developer. |

Got it. That makes much more sense. Just the all the talk of Cobo made me remember when LBP was insistent that it could be done with no tax dollars but never unveiled a name or plan. |

Jt1, Think, which Organization with a ton of cash, puts on the biggest event in Michigan, and always saying they need more space? Of course I'm just guessing here. I think you will see a new convention center in the Metro Detroit area, but not in Detroit. Perhaps closer to the airport. |

And that new facility will be free of the shakedown mentality the unions at cobo have. |

The problem is, no matter what kind on renovation (short of tearing it down and starting all over again) you do to COBO it will never be a world class convention center. If you want to see a real convention center take a trip to the Chicago Auto Show at McCormick Place. |

MtHouston, McCormick place is 50 years old and been added to several times. It is cobbled too. BTW, its Cobo, not COBO, it is proper name. You would not write ARCHER or YOUNG if it was named after one of those ex-mayors would you? |

Hey Detroitplanner take a look at the COBO web site. http://www.cobocenter.com/ They spell it with all caps too.

This is true. But it is a real nice "cobbled" job. |

It's spelled COBO on the building, lol... It would be a stupid idea to build a new convention center outside of Detroit. |

In reviewing the site they use Cobo too, its not my fault that we have some ignorant folks marketing the place. What the heck would COBO be an acronym for? City of Bums Organization? Cobo was a Mayor. I've always thought it was silly that they write it that way in the building, I've even had conventioneers ask me what COBO is short for, its confusing. |

Wasn't Cobo a racist? Perhaps the all caps is a way to no longer make it a name of a person? |
