Or, I should say, its hotel.

One of the things I can see at home is the GTC site. I can see that they have sunk pilings and cement columns into the ground. They have also poured a cement slab. Does anyone know why there is no basement? My speculation is that it is:

1. Cost or remediation issues.

2. The garage covers the entire footprint (which doesn't explain why the cement pad only covers part of the site).

3. Interference with steam tunnels.

4. The possibility of someone breaking in through the basement (unlikely, since the gaming facility is not on that site).

Any ideas?

A lot of things are built without basements these days. You could have put a couple floors of parking down there at minimum; helping to keep the garage mass of the structure to a minimum.

It's the cost. They nearly (or did) cut their budget for this project in half. BTW, despite what the News reported some months ago, the hotel IS NOT being built on top of the parking garage, though it will be directly adjacent and connected to the hotel.

I've heard a rumor that the Motorcity Casino won't have an attic.

"It's more expensive to go down than up."

I think that's the rule in the entertainment district in Windsor.
