Ever since I first used Google Earth, I've enjoyed how it often gives an entirely different perspective from street level. Today I was noticing how many developments have taken place since the current satellite photos were taken: the new Motor City and MGM casinos, the plaza outside of the GM Wintergarden, the east riverfront, Campus Martius, etc. I also enjoy finding quirks in the imagery. Sometimes this is due to the way the satellite images are are stitched together. See how the Guardian Building and Comerica tower "lean" differently than the buildings south of Larned and north of Congress?
Also, the satellite image of the Detroit River railroad tunnel entrance was taken at the precise moment that a train was emerging.
For those of you who use Google Earth, what other quirks have you discovered from the skies over the motor city? |

I always thought this one of Ford Motor Company Headquarters was funny... It was taken just as a Jet passed over on the way to Metro Airport, and it makes it look like the Jet is parked on the front lawn

That white car in the Southbound lane is about to totally cut off that black car next to it. I think I see the guy in the black car sticking out his middle finger, or is that a gun? |

The Book Cadillac roof appears to be on Michigan Ave. Maybe its safer working on the ground.

If you use the birds eye view on maps.live.com, look at grand circus park. when you pan e/w depending on the frame, the hotel is there, then it is gone in the next frame. I'm sorry, been here all this time and I can't think of the hotel name. Statler? |

There is one more airplane photo in addition to the other two which I previously pointed out to the forum - this twin Cessna which skidded off the runway at Detroit City Airport:
The Fresh Logic Atlas software shows a car fire on an overpass is various stages. When the aircraft first flew by, it was just starting:
On the next pass, the car was fully engulfed:
Next time by, it had been extinguished:
Later, a wrecker was there to haul it away:
Finally, back to normal:

Ah the bay area...homeless and hipsters peeing all over. That makes me think of Deuce Bigalow European Gigalow when the Police Commisioner Guy, AKA the killer, says he's sick of foreign hippies coming to amsterdam for "Legalized drugs, and getting high and pissing and crapping in our historic streets." Cut to a guy in a Leafs jersey screaming, "I'm wasted!" And peeing on a parked car. |
