The feds released a tech brief on the use of Michigan lefts on roads.

Their verdict--they work pretty well.

Although they do call them MUTITs (mutants?) through the whole report.

It's nice to have some positive press from time to time.

I never had a problem with em..

Better than having an 8 lane road that at one intersection has 5 lights on a single pole.. Stop, Go, Yield, Right turn, Left Turn...

And you have to wait out each cycle to go where u want to go.. Those are brutal in florida...

Do not confuse the Michigan left with the West Coast Turnaround. They are very different things. Although you could have a West Coast Turnaround while making a Michigan left, but this is not condoned behavior.

That’s a very good report Ro_resident. My chief driving complaint regarding turns comes with the left hand turn lane: when did it become a right hand merge lane??

I've never had a problem with them at major intersections like Alex described... but they seem to be making a lot of roads unnecessarily into divided highways, creating a LOT more Michigan Lefts

I love them. And dividing roads into Blvds. makes areas more walking friendly, ie Livernois. Long live the Michigan Left.
