Pretty stupid ... this line was kinda funny though
quote:The only municipal facility to get off relatively easy was the Detroit Zoo which is, my guide pointed out, "where they send the crack lions." |

I'm confused about what his take is. I cant tell if it is written apologetically or if it is a serious dig at the city. Not very well written, regardless of his intent, if you ask me. |

quote:And so, I was happy to be in the company of a rabid Detroit detractor while I spent my weekend near the shore of Lake Michigan. Sure, we saw the nice stuff (Greektown and the rest), but my guide made sure that I realized that these were the only cool places in what was otherwise a totally jerkwater burg. Huh? Are we sure he even visited Detroit, or did they move Lake Michigan while I wasn't looking. Perhap he was really in Benton Harbor...? |

I think he's trying to say that Detroit's only interest to tourists would be its dangerous side, not the few attractions everyone else has, i.e. casinos, zoo, riverfront, museums etc. I think it was more of a "I wanna live dangerously for once in my life" thing . In other words, Detroit's rep as a f&%ked up city is the only thing people really know about it throughout the world rather than the tiny steps it has been taking in improvements . I guess violence does sell. Maybe someone should start a "shoot the tourist" game all these morons can get involved in and then go back home to their safe enviroments and tell all their stuffy friends what fun they had living dangerously. Kinda reminds me of all the morons lined up to see the big hole in the ground in NYC. Damn shame, Detroit has a lot to offer to the future and historically. Someone should put together a comprehensive bus tour spanning all of d's history . An all day tour to make tourists leave here in awe of what our city was and what it could be. |

I guess you could say he's a pessimist. I just wonder if he gets a 'hater' to show him around every city or he was just picking on Detroit. |

If you ask me, only a true moron would make a statement like that. Are you Ann Coulter? Me: Maybe you took that the wrong way. The WTC site was treated as a novelty and still is. There were no where near as many mourners as there were ghoul hunters or gore seekers. Why don't you take a walk down that way and tell me what you think of the busloads of tourists snapping photos ,laughing, buying t-shirts of the towers on fire, hot dogs, spumoni, zeppolis and such and then tell me how many real mourners you see. I personally feel they should ban the bus tours, the vendors and thrill seekers from congregating down there but then again, thats just my opion but Im sure someone else who has not misunderstood me will lambaste me for holding up progress or their "freedoms" please, re-read my statement and re-think your thoughts. It was not meant to be disrespectful to anyone that passed there . Not in the least especially since I lost my fiance there. good day. |

Wonder what fountain he's referring to? This guy didn't get into any kind of specifics. I bet he actually didn't go. But his whole schtick is finding the worst of any place. |

Dexterpointing, I did, indeed, misunderstand your statement. I had no idea the site had become such a circus. I visited the site in Nov. 2001 and it was a wrenching experience that I will never forget. My apologies and condolences for your loss. |

no problem Ram, I should have been a bit more clearer in my thoughts as I was just trying to point out that the guy that is the topic of this thread is treating Detroit's unfortunate state the same as the gore hunters in NYC treat the WTC site. thanx for your thoughts |

I wonder if the fountain they are referring to is actually the ice sculpture they do on Belle Isle every year on the beach where they use logs? and a sprinkler. |

95% of people in the world have a bad impression of Detroit. It's nice to know that most people on tours are doing it because they are interested in seeing and learning something that was previously unknown to them. This person seems to be the exception and therefore deserves little in terms of catering to his position. |

P.S. There web site does spell out that they are "...dedicated to bringing you the finest in Web comedy." At least we can all feel better knowing that they are only trying to be original with their comedic acts and pick on Detroit. |

The only Detroit haters I know are the ones that only know the Hard Rock Cafe and Greektown exist in the city. Other than that, they're clueless...which is why they are labeled "a hater" in the first place. Show them a building older than 2007 and they poop their pants in freight. Typically, it is the Detroit lovers that will show you the ins and the outs. At least that's my intent. |

"Huh? Are we sure he even visited Detroit, or did they move Lake Michigan while I wasn't looking. Perhap he was really in Benton Harbor...?" I'll take you one further. Does he even live in LA? The "bad parts" out there aren't really a big secret... |

I noticed the lake michigan statement too. It made me think maybe this is a joke, like the Onion or something |
