I am the proud owner of this week's signal. I restored this signal a couple years ago to reflect its orignal Detroit Issue green of the 1940s. The inside of this signal has a manufacture date of March 1947. It also came with its orignal WAIT lens as it was probably used as a pedestrian signal. This beauty was manufactured by Crouse Hinds and referred to as the "Art Deco" because of its decorative end plates on top and bottom.

Signal, do you have any idea where this one was installed?

And where was it made?

No idea where it came from in Detroit. It was probably removed some 25+ years ago. Crouse Hinds is located in Syracuse, NY.

That's one heck of a hobby, Detroitsignal! Mine is license plates, and at least they're easy to store and display on the garage wall. If I started bringing home traffic signals, I'd also need to find a divorce lawyer.....:-)

Great photos.

Ray,

I have a few older plates. One is a 67 off my dad's Camaro before he sold it. I have a set of '76 municipals off of Ebay and a few others from over the years.

Bullet,

I was just there yesterday. I'm surprised I don't cross paths with any of you guys!

In Michigan, a personalized plate doesn't mean a family member made it. =)

My pride and joy is the complete "run" of Michigan plates from the first year they were issued in 1910 to date. All on the garage wall.

Ray1936, sorry for the off-topic ness of this question, but aren’t some of the earliest plates made of leather? If you can, will you post a photo? Also Ray, are there any plates you are in need of, such as "x" plates, or other special ones? Let me know, because I occasionally run across them and will be happy to send them your way.

Anybody else besides me remember the pedestrian signals that said "Walk" and "Don't Walk", but instead of them being vertically stacked they were placed horizontally, or next to one another? There used to be one at the corner of Vernor and Woodmere, right next to the laundry mat. In Southwest Detroit. It was dark green. I remember it from what I was a wee little lad.

Hardliner,

There several along Chicago Blvd. between Southfield Freeway and Evergreen. The one I remember the most was the one I used to cross by everyday going to school was the corner of Grandville and Chicago by Saint Suzanne Catholic School. It was replaced in the early eighties by the current pedestrian signals.

Bulletmagnet, Detroit_Signal,

Did either of you catch that there is an old Crouse-Hinds "Art Deco" signal head (like the ones restored by Detroit_Signal at the top of this thread) about a few blocks west of the intersection pictured in Bulletmagnet's photos?
