I know Detroit's potholes aren't the best to drive on, but does anyone know if anyone in the area owns a Lamborghini, Ferrari, or other exotic car?

I have seen a Pantera, a Lamborghini Diablo SV, and a few Vipers in Allen Park, and I've also seen other exotics in the 'Burbs, but other than that, I've never seen an exotic car in Detroit, unless you count a Corvette or Mustang.

Also, where's a relatively long straightaway with no speed traps around here?

Saw a Bentley on Kercheval the other day if you consider that exotic. Most of those exotic penis sports cars are spotted out in B-ham and Bloomfield.

Ha, the designer of one of the newest (unfortunately already discontinued) exotic, the Ford GT40, drives one of his constantly around downtown. We've played tag a few times down the Mack/I-75 entrance ramps towards the CBD...big fun.

There are a few Ferraris driven around downtown, at least one blue sedan by one of the made men down here in the Market, but NOT one of their low-riding racers...just the sedan. Just, heh.

Back in the day, the DEA kept their 'acquired' stash in that parking structure near the GAR building...I worked at Seaway Motors during 1986 and was tasked to pick up a few Mazdas stored there after the Auto Show. When we hit the floor with the DEA stuff stored on it, it was simply amazing to see the Lamborghinis and Ferraris and other exotics there.

Those were the early days of street coke and crack sales, when the franchises were more profitable.

Bentley's are definitely exotic. They're about as high luxury as you can get. Although with the introduction of the Continental Coupe/Convertible, they're probably selling about two thousand more units a year than they used to when paired with Rolls.

I've seen a dark Maserati Quattroporte a few times around Detroit. Came into Park Bar when I was there about a month ago and then I possibly saw it again parked near the Zoo Bar/Jacobys about two weeks ago. I think he's in the music scene.

I don't think I've seen any Lotus Exiges around here. For only $55k it's a hell of a car.

Anyone seen the red T-Rex around lately?

Sticks - I saw one in Rochester today.

I've also seen a few Elises around in the suburbs...but not yet downtown.

I saw a Ford GT on Woodward near Warren yesterday. Apart from that, I can't remember seeing many true exotics in the city, unless you count 80s-era Porsches.

Go to the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club sometimes, you'll see quite a few exotic cars parked there. When I sailed out of that club, there was a Rolls convertible painted with that rainbow-like finishing. Also Bentley, Viper, classic 60's Mustang convertible, a Bugatti, Alfa Romeo Berlin convertible and more.

I saw either a Ferrari or Lamborghini haulin' ass southbound on Dexter a month or two ago. The Detroit Athletic Club often has a selection of various exotics parked out front in the summer. Personally, I'm more excited to see muscle cars from the 60's and 70's prowling the streets, but that's just me.

I saw a Lotus at the grocery store in my old neighborhood in Detroit, that was about 15 years though.

I've seem a few DeLorians running around, one in Taylor and one in Dearborn.

Saw a Lancia in West Bloomfield on Telegraph.

Saw Bentleys 2 different times...On Michigan Ave in downtown west Dearborn and on Telegraph just yesterday..

Just drive around Lake Shore Drive in Grosse Pointe on a nice and sunny Saturday or Sunday, you'll see a fair share of Porsche's, Lambo's, Ferrari's, classics etc.

I forgot about the 2 Ford GTs (one was a GT40) I saw parked on Woodward last summer and the other Ford GT I saw on Evergreen by Fairlane. I also saw a Bentley Continental on the Davison by Livernois. I saw an SLR McClaren somewhere near Farmington. Oh, and I saw a Lotus Elise in I-75 North by Big Beaver. There's also a blue Viper in Ecorse with white stripes. There's also a Porsche 944 in my neighborhood (SW).

I started getting interested in finding out where the exotics hang out because I was at Lamborghini of Troy on Thursday and I came to find out there were FIVE Lamborghini Diablos, I know some of them had MI plates. I'd love to know where these beauties are hiding!

If the Maybach you saw was two-tone brown (shoe brown/dark champaign gold) I know the owner.
There must be 1,100 little electric motors in that car to do EVERYTHING.

The one with Oregon plates is Rasheed...but he said he wanted to get rid of it. Never said what he wanted instead, but the stable was overfilled so perhaps he just needed the space.

Dad is selling his 2005 C55 AMG. Anyone interested? A very very fast little car. I had it up to 135 on the lodge once while a friend and I were heading home from the Town Pump.

He's getting the 2008 Diesel E body.

Saw a Lotus creeping on 696 a couple of weeks ago and a bright orange Lambourghini on 94. Yep, it was a good day.

Also saw a car being delivered to someone in Millender. It was a brand I never heard of before. Car looked sleek though.

Cambrian,

He got a wee sick of 5 mpg, did he?! They don't say how LOW the mileage goes when you stick your foot into it.

Client of mine up in the Flint area got rid of his, too. It was only fun until everyone wanted to race him at every light.

Actually the mileage isn't that bad. He gets between 18 and 24. The car's just too damn small. I can't stand riding in it, neither can mom.

The GT40 owner, Camillo, also has a Ferrari, circa mid-80s, that he drives around. There was a piece on the news about him a few months back, since he's racked up so many reckless driving/speeding violations. He has a pretty good Halloween art show/party at his place across from Atlas every year, and he keeps the cars parked in the building for everyone to check out, including some older Mini-type car that probably doesn't run but is kind of a novelty and fun to sit in. It's kind of a leap of faith to have them so accessible to the partygoers, actually--there always seem to be a few sketchy people who show up.

I thought that when I had strangers through during the art and fashion show this past Friday...sketchy people are pretty easy to spot. I don't have NEARLY the value of stuff that he's got there, but my hifi is a wee bit more portable...you don't have to start or tow it to get it gone!

MOST who stumbled down my hallway were concerned when they realized they had stepped into an occupied unit instead of a model...THOSE folks I welcomed with open arms and a smile, "welcome to my world". Had a marvelous time meeting some really cool people, and had a half-dozen forumers and their partners/friends stop by...THEY were a blessing!

The ones who barged in, then started looking around at my stuff were herded right out the door again...

Camilo has a relative innocence with or open-ness to people...haven't known him for long, but I've been to about SIX of his parties over the years before the one a few weekends ago when I finally met him. The vibe in his space has always been a good one, I cannot imagine evil being able to get in too easily.

(His ex-girlfriend is PISSED at him right now...so maybe that innocence is only skin deep!)

What is that little car, a Sunbeam IMP? I didn't get that good a look at it, my vision was...um...blurry by then.

Heh.

Genesyxx, any idea what kind of Lamborghini and perhaps where it was headed?

Ghetto_butterfly, any idea if it was a Bugatti Veyron??? It's the fastest and most expensive car around! I know they were selling one at Bentley of Troy, and I haven't seen it, so could this be the same one?

Gdub, any idea what kind of Ferrari Camillo drives?

Oh I forgot, I also saw a Maserati in West Dearborn on Mich. Ave last month.

It is the one similar to the Berlinetta Boxer...same overall shape but smaller.

Was there a 508?! Definitely more than the old 308...but when I guessed the Boxer, he corrected me. Actually it might've been Tom, his cohort in crime there.

his ferrari is a 308 gts, the poor man's ferrari, i even saw him topping off the oil in it behind the dia af few years ago. his "little car" is a fiat 500. it has an air cooled rear-mounted engine like a vw beetle.

i saw him driving a far less exotic 4 wheeler on saturday at eastern market...his skateboard

It is a latter-day 308 then, I never knew the GTS descriptor...it has the same curves as the old Berlinetta.

The owner of the old Birmingham Motors on Woodward just north of 14 Mile used to drive his old 308 in the wintertime, with a ski rack on the back!

G_butterfly, indeed, I used to work at GPYC and was always impressed.

The most exotic I ever see in the city are usually the full-size BMW or Audi or Jaguar sedans on Jefferson. I actually like these elegant sedans much more than the high-power coupes. Check out the DAC or Yontondega Club if you want to see some high-end foreign cars in the city.

I was curious to see how much that Ferrari model goes for, and it looks like several have sold on ebay recently for around $25,000. Pretty reasonable, if you want to say you have a Ferrari. A new one goes for more than 10 times that.

As far as the Bugatti Veyron, I can't imagine anyone actually driving a $1.4 million vehicle on public roads. The paranoia over some idiot in an Escort slamming into you would be overwhelming.

I think you mean REdesigners. The GT is an updated version of the GT-40.

Sport locked himself in the Ferrari at one of the parties. Had to have Camillo's girl let him out.

Head up to Auto Zone Books on Woodward and 14 on Saturday mornings to see several millions in exotic vehicles.

The GT is the new vehicle. The GT-40 is the mid 60's early 70's LeMans car. Ford could not call the new vehicle GT-40 because they do not have rights to the name anymore.

The topic IS about exotic cars seen in Detroit and how it IS strange. Lets be honest, eastern market isn't little italy and even though its an italian restaurant it's not every day a car like that is parked out front.

Nere: I believe it was a Murcialago (i know I spelled that wrong) and no clue where he was headed. He just kept rolling up 94 towards Metro Beach.

And it was a Tesla. Had to check out the site, but that was definately it. I like that car! Too bad it's short production and 100K

I saw an orange lamborghini up here in flint twice last summer, once parked outside sloan museum, and again on center road near I-69 - possibly the same one genesyxx saw. definitely a newer model, not a diablo, but i don't know the gallardo or murcielago enough to differentiate. a lambo is a lambo to me...

also seen a rolls, a bentley, and a ferrari on my old commute down to warren via I-75. once saw an aston martin on a flatbed too. and a lotus elise, but not sure where.

Sheed has been all over the city in his Maybach. Barden in his S-500. IDIOT A#$ Lavan Hawkins in his Bentley(s)
I have seen quit a few high-line rides on Jefferson in the summer.

I work for the company that owns the Bentley, Rolls, Bugatti, Spyker, Lambo store and even in seeing these things day in and day out it never gets old.

No, it's not little Italy but it is an Italian restaurant where I wouldn't be surprised seeing an exotic Italian sports car. And the topic is "Exotics on the Road" not "How strange it is to see Exotics on the Road."

Saw a '74 Eldorado with a naked woman hood ornament with wings that lit up, chrome mud flaps, big ass vertical bumper guards & a "Gemini" banner that spanned the whole rear window in Inkster the other day. It was EXOTIQUE!

Willmess01, I'm curious too. Do you work at Lamborghini of Troy? If so, I may have seen you, I was just there today. I CAN'T BELIEVE THERE IS A BUGATTI VEYRON THERE RIGHT NOW!!! Oh, and I got to hear Ryan move the Diablo back a few feet; it popped my ears, and he didn't even rev it.

We saw an Acura NSX today on Woodward, Royal Oak, I think. I've seen it before, so it must be this person's daily driver. I spotted a couple Porsche's, including a Carrera and a few Boxers.

Oh, I also saw this beauty:

Camillo's Ford GT?

Can anyone tell me if this is the Ford GT that belongs to Camillo? I took this today, it's a shame it was parked on the street, but if it hadn't been, I wouldn't have been so lucky to see it. Oh it was parked by a puddle, I almost cried. Last summer I saw this one with another one behind it. I also saw one more by Fairlane. It's funny how these cars are so rare, yet I've seen three. :P

If it was parked in front of the Bankle it is Camillos. Was the other one black or the blue and orange Gulf Oil livery? Why is it a shame a production car is parked in the street?

It would surprise me if this car was parked at the curb.

I actually work for another store in the "Collection" but have been here for a few years and either know very well or have even sold many of the sales-reps their own vehicles that work at the Lambo-Bugatti etc store.

I is a pretty incredible scene day in and day out. Pretty much anything you can imagine!

To see a machine that just sold for 1,500,000 is grounding to say the least.

But my favorite is the still the Bentley Flying Spur, what more could you ask for? :-)

Toolbox, the other one was the blue and orange Heritage:

Heritage

^that kind. I saw it behind what I now guess was Camilo's Ford GT on Woodward. There's also a Heritage model up at the Saleen dealership, what a beauty!

And I think it's sad because I think these cars shouldn't be parked over puddles! Instead, they should be held in a shrine... inside a glass garage for all to see, but it'll still be protected from the weather, bugs, and bad drivers.

Leaving the Tigers game Friday night we saw a black Pantera heading north on I-75 near Mack. This evening I saw an Acura NSX in Waterford, pulling out of a McDonald's no less! The vanity tag read NSX.

Although I'm sure there are a few Panteras in the area, the Pantera I had seen last summer was on Outer Drive and was about to go on the Southfield Fwy.

That might be the same one I saw on Woodward the other day! I didn't take pictures of it, but the plate said "NSX." :-)

I have seen a Pantera, a Lamborghini Diablo SV, and a few Vipers in Allen Park, and I've also seen other exotics in the 'Burbs, but other than that, I've never seen an exotic car in Detroit, unless you count a Corvette or Mustang.

It's not too hard to find a Viper in Detroit, considering the fact that Vipers are made at the Connor Plant on the east side of the city.

If you haven't seen any other exotic cars in Detroit, you must not spend much time around the upscale restaurants, nightclubs, or casinos downtown.

I didn't know that the Viper is made in Detroit!!! I just googled the plant name, and I'm really happy to hear that! Thanks, Erikd!

Oh, today on Woodward I saw a black Ford GT with white stripes. I also saw Aston Martin DB9 on Woodward after Maple. I'm really glad I took Toolbox's advice about Auto Zone, I went today (Sunday), so there were no cars, but if I hadn't gone, I would've missed out on a lot.

Oh, Auto Europe has a Lotus Espirit to add to its collection of Elises and Exiges and its Ferrari 360. Oh, Lamborghini of Troy moved the Bugatti from the service department to the showroom (and I missed that sound!), seems to have given the Diablo it was servicing back to its owner from Ohio, and sold the Porsche GT3 it had for sale. I missed out on hearing some great sounds! BUT I got to hear a Ford GT go pretty fast, so it all works out. :-)

Oh, I just remembered I saw another Aston Martin headed South toward I-696, that one was silver. Then we saw the GT, followed it for awhile. Then saw the black DB9 parked next to a BMW in front of some stores (can't remember the names). The guy came out just after we parked, and he revved that V12 as he headed on Woodward again. We didn't think it was going to be as fierce-sounding as it was, so we didn't get our camera, and I regret that now, but you know what? It was still a great day!

I saw a Porsche Speedster today! Woodward, north of Ferndale, tried to chase it, couldn't get to it.

I also saw a Ferrari 328 GTS, a GTO, and a 360 Spider being picked up/ dropped off at Cauley Ferrari today. Lovely!

Saw a Viper on Woodward across from the Lotus dealership going South. Also saw another black Viper on I-75 North, near the Outer Drive exit. :D Great day to spot cars!!!

In the late 70's, a family friend in Rosedale Park owned a canary yellow on black Ford Pantera. Awesome!

I think Panteras are beautiful, I like their style. When I start making real money (I only make monopoly money and chump change right now), I'd like to own one or a Lamborghini Diablo... or SLR Mclaren... Porsche Carrera GT... Ford GT... Ok, I should stop. I am drooling now haha.

Willmess saw:
quote:

IDIOT A#$ Lavan Hawkins in his Bentley(s)

around downtown in the past. Yeah, Mr. Hawkins used to park that thing anywhere, anytime. Over the years, I saw it with parking tickets on the windshield at least four or five times. He probably owes the MPD thousands.

Oh so THAT's how the city/state's debt can be paid off! haha

Hey does anyone know what kind of car Kilpatrick drives, other than his wife's infamous Navigator?
