OFFERED FOR SALE ARE A FABULOUS SET OF CAST BRONZE DOORS THAT ONCE GRACED THE DETROIT TRUST & BANK BUILDING (NOW COMERICA) IN DOWNTOWN DETROIT, MICHIGAN. THE BUILDING WAS DESIGNED BY WORLD FAMOUS ARCHITECT - ALBERT KAHN. THE BANK WAS BUILT IN THE EARLY 20TH C & LOOKS LIKE THE PARTHENON. THE DOORS, WITH ORIGINAL BRONZE SURROUND, WERE REMOVED IN THE LATE 1950'S. THEY HAVE BEEN KEPT ALL THESE YEARS BY THE MAN WHO REMOVED THEM FOR THE BANK. WE BELIEVE THE DOORS WERE ONCE USED TO GUARD THE SAFETY DEPOSIT ROOM. THE BANK HAD THE DOORS REMOVED BECAUSE THEY WERE CONSIDERED TO HEAVY FOR CUSTOMERS TO OPEN.

THE DOORS STAND 112" H X 64 1/2"W, NOT INCLUDING THE ACCOMPANYING SURROUND. THE PANELS ARE ALTERNATING DESIGNS CAST IN BRONZE. THERE IS A PAIR OF ORNATE RING PULLS TO PULL OPEN THE DOORS THAT PIVET ON A SET OF PINS AT THE TOP & BOTTOM OF EACH DOOR PANEL. ON THE LEFT HAND DOOR (3RD PANEL DOWN FROM THE TOP) THERE IS A SMALL MOTHER OF PEARL BUTTON, ONCE ATTACHED TO AN ELECTRONIC CABLE, AS A BUZZER. IT IS LOCATED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FLOWER'S CENTER. THAT IS WHY WE BELIVE IT WAS USED TO ENTER THE SAFETY DEPOSIT AREA OF THE BANK.

AT THE BOTTOM OF THE DOORS, THE RAIL AREA, THERE ARE A NUMBER OF ATTACHED CAST BRONZE MEDALLIONS, CREATING YET ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL AREA OF DETAILING ON THESE WONDERFUL BRONZE DOORS. THE SURFACE PATINA SPEAKS OF YEARS GONE BY WITH SOFT GREENS & MELLOW BRONZE TONES.

DOORS LIKE THESE, WITH A PROVENANCE OF BEING DESIGNED BY ALBERT KAHN ARE FEW & FAR BETWEEN. ALBERT KAHN, AT ONE TIME, HAD MORE BUILDINGS BEING BUILT THAN ANYONE INTHE COUNTRY. HE HAD 600 EMPLOYEES AT THIS TIME. AND HE PRODUCED SPECTACULAR BUILDINGS WITH EXTREMELY HIGH QUALITY APPOINTMENTS.

THESE DOORS WOULD MAKE A TRULY UNIQUE ENTRANCE INTO ANY HOME, RESTAURANT OR BUSINESS.

PLEASE CONTACT US WITH ANY QUESTIONS CONCERNING MORE PHOTOS, SPECS, PACKING/SHIPPING COSTS.

For all you people who scan ebay for "Detroit" items: Keep an eye out for sewer grates and manhole covers. There seems to be a lot of those missing lately.

Are these doors really by Kahn? Parducci, perhaps?
