"DEEEEEEE-TROOOOOIIIIIT BASKET-BAAAAAAALLLL!" Seriously, he sounds like he's making fun of a developmentally disabled kid with a speech impediment. In fact, everyone who says it like that sounds like they're making fun of developmentally disabled kids. I turned down a free ticket (a $700 seat in the second row at the Palace for Game 2 of the Bulls series) because I knew I wouldn't be able to sit through the first quarter without strangling Mason till he lost his voice. Down with Mason. Up With People. |

Mason is the only thing other than a great team that would give me reason to go to the palace for a game. |

No lie, Vas. Ticket was offered; ticket was declined. Just wasn't that interested. Now if it were Jordan and Pippen in town, and Ken Calvert were still the P.A. guy ... |

You might be right, Apbest. I used to work with them, actually. Perhaps I've finally joined their ranks. |

You know the guy is good if you have other announcers doing takeoffs of him at other games. (The Detroit Turnover one from Cleveland) |

I agree with Harpernottingham's original description of Mason's signature bellow. I also don't like an announcer to make himself that much a part of the event. But, neither issue is a big deal, to me; I'm just weighing in on the topic. (Actually, the "don't make yourself part of the event" guideline is supposed to apply to game officials, too.) |

I think people like Mason. I know the NBA does, otherwise he would not have been the PA announcer for the all-star game in Vegas |

Its sorta like the "Lets get ready to RUMBLE!!" thing. I can take it or leave it, but you are right: it sounds retarded. |

Yes, Lady, because I'm sure when some punk thug gets raged at a drug deal gone bad, he's going to shout Deeeetroiiiit Bassssssketbaaaaaaaaall instead of shooting someone. |

LOVE HIM ALWAYS! I grew up listening 2 him. He even visited some of the Schools I attended (Chandler, Kettering). I love the introduction, it makes a nice ringtone (if it's available, I'll get one.) "DEEEEEEE-TROOOOOIIIIIT BASKET-BAAAAAAALLLL!" Hey, look at it this way. It's been gettin' 'em 2 the playoffs these past few years. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. That's what the wise ones say. |

He emceed the Quicken Loans company-wide party I went to last year. I don't know what all the fuss is about. He was sub-par to mediocre at best...kinda sucked. Wait a second...aren't Mildred Gaddis and Mason the same person? Hahahahaahahah. |

As the Pistons PA announcer I think he's fine. He's just a part of the entertainment that one expects in current NBA games now. He neither adds nor detracts from me watching the basketball game. Now as a DJ on the radio, I wish he'd pull a little more clout and be a little more influential in determining what gets played. But then I wish there was a DJ worth his or her salt in the Detroit market who was willing to play their brand of music with the intent of informing and entertaining us. Instead we get these corporate ho-hum, risk free, pre-formatted music blocks. I miss the days of WDET (when it was a clearing house for innovative music- local and nationally) and the Electrifying Mojo far too much. |
