I realize this probably belongs on FlintYes.com, but I thought it was unusual enough to warrant a post here: http://blog.mlive.com/flintjou rnal/newsnow/2007/05/post_3.ht ml
quote:Pizza delivery man shoots, kills man he said was assaulting him Posted by Kim Crawford and Matt Bach May 10, 2007 07:34AM FLINT -- A pizza deliveryman shot and killed a man Wednesday night who he told police was beating him with a wrench. The shooting, after 10 p.m. on Hammerburg Road near Stoney Brook Court, killed Corneilus D. Gainer, 24, Flint police said. Gainer's first name is also given in court records as "Cornelius." The deliveryman, 49, was taken in custody along with the second robbery suspect, whom Flint police identified as Eddie G. Jackson. No age was given for Jackson. The deliveryman said the two were beating him with a wrench when he pulled a gun and shot one of them. He told police they were trying to rob him. ... |

nice! I wonder what the last thing that went through that a**hole's mind was... this actually isn't all that unusual...the news just tends to report less frequently on stories where crime victims successfully defend themselves with a firearm...it's a bigger story when the criminals kill the innocent working man... |

I hope this is true that it was legit defense. It is a shame somebody has to lose their life over something so stupid as a robbery. I can't imagine how the pizza guy feels. No matter what, if I was attacked with a wrench and someone attempted to rob me, I'd still feel bad for killing the guy. But I am glad to hear that someone stood up for themselves. I support people's right to carry guns as long as their used in the correct situations, and it sounds like this is probably one of those instances. If more people could carry and use responsibly (like the pizza guy), I honestly believe criminals would think twice before attacking somebody. ON the other hand, maybe they'd just shoot you first and take your money.... |

This is the 2nd time this pizza guy has shot somebody while on the job. The first guy survived but refused to press charges. |

If I ever started delivering pies again, you can be damn well be sure I'd get a CWP and good gun. Sounds like the shooting was justified but there aren't many facts in the article. I remember there were a couple of pizza drivers shot in Detroit a few years back when I worked for Little Skeezers. It's not as safe as a job as everyone thinks. |

Good! I'm tired of criminals getting away with it. Beat crime at it's source, I say. Maybe the next loser will think twice before picking on a poor guy just trying to work for a living. "Is he packing...or isn't he?" Let the criminal take the risk, for once. |

Socialism? No way! I'm a capitalist who believes in hanging on to my money..and my life. Hence, the gun, in this instance. What are you? Some kind of criminal advocate? |

lol...well, assuming he was shot in a different location, I like to think it was something to the effect of, "WTF?!?! Pizza delivery men aren't supposed to fight back! That's not fair!" what the anti-gun crowd doesn't realize is that criminals prey on people that they don't believe can or will defend themselves...the more this perception changes, the safer we'll all be... the anti-gun crowd's solution to this type of situation is that they don't have one...to them, this pizza man was just the victim of bad fortune, and that he should have just accepted this and allowed himself to be robbed and possibly killed |
