quote:

Palombo said SEMCOG is trying to find out if some federal money for studying transit between Ann Arbor and Detroit can be used to help pay for the proposed contract service with Amtrak. Project organizers also will be seeking state and local government help, and may seek help from some businesses, he said.

SEMCOG now wants to divert the federal funds set for studying the proposals into starting to build the system. That's a dangerous approach because once something starts (however good or lousy it is), the bureaucrats will keep insisting that their system continually be expanded. That's how many expensive foolish boondoggles start and continue their ill-conceived existences.
