Detroiter John Thawley has suggested what is called a 'false grid' of the American LeMans Series cars parked along the side of Woodward Ave. 'old Lemans style' before the Belle Isle event Labor Day. The ALMS is noted for allowing fans to come up close and see the cars and drivers. It is very popular and big crowds always swarm this event. My question, where along Woodward could such a thing be held? The cars stretch for at least one block and are usually backed in at an angle facing out. Wouldn't it be good for them to use the Park St./Witherell circle around Grand Circus Park...or better to use Cadillac Square, as long as the racers don't mind parking on a brand name that might not be a sponsor?! Within a short walk from Woodward, so the thoroughfare doesn't get too screwed up. |
