1885 Toy Locomtoive

This Sunday I'm giving a talk on the Detroit Historical Museum's Glancy Trains Collection in the Museum's Booth-Wilkinson Auditorium at 1 p.m.

I'll cover the Museum's scale and toy train collections going back to 1951 and some of the history of toy trains as well as a behind-the-scenes visit to the Glancy Trains operating toy train layout.

The talk is free with Museum admission, which is $6 for Adults, $4 for Seniors and students (ages 5-17), and free for Children under age 4 as it is for Detroit Historical Society members.

The Museum is located at 5401 Woodward Avenue at Kirby catercorner to the Detroit Institue of Arts. Parking is available at $3 in the Museum lot on the north side of Kirby west of the building - just push the white speaker button and tell the attendant who answers you're there to see the Museum and attend the Glancy Trains talk.

Dear 56Packman,

Unfortunately Skip Greiner won't be there Sundayat the 1 p.m. talk.

I had him down to the Glancy Trains this morning for our bi-weekly work 2-hour work party and that's enough trains for him for another 2 weeks.

For those who may not know who Skip is, he's the guy who invented the keyless entry we use with our automobiles. He's an electronics expert and the one who designed the "ChooChooCam" TV train for the Museum, which gives visitors and "engineers eye" view of the layout as it circles around.

Skip also designed the Museum's "ChooChooSign" car with an programable illuminated moving sign.
