Sorry, off topic but, can forumers learn how to use the words There & Their? I notice the word 'there' misused all the time. |

They're their, now. Maybe we can get people to post in the appropriate forums, while we're at it. |

They're not properly using their pronouns over there. |

Good luck with that. remedial reading and grammar lessons are always helpful, but keep in mind that in many cases, in the absence of personal knowledge to the contrary, you are probably conversing with a 12 or possibly 13 year old.... Perhaps you should simply start a grammar thread in Non-Detroit Issues (which is wear this really belongs)...ha. |

Crew's pet-peeve? Sorry guys but adding "-wise" to the end of a word does not make it a new word. "What's in Corktown development-wise?" Why not jusy say, "what new developments are in Corktown?" |

Detroitrulez, simply because someone uses "there" instead of "their" does not mean they are 12 or 13 years old. Unfortunately, many, many adults make the same mistake. Crew, that is a legitimate pet peeve, or should I say pet peeve-wise? |

so are you saying there aren't a lot of 12 and 13 year olds posting here? What if I still played with Legos? |

While I have no idea of the demographic profile of this forum's users, I am guessing that debating the fate of the Hudson's block, discussing Pewabic pottery, and talking about the decline (or nondecline) of Livonia is something that interests most twelve or thirteen year olds. |

Can we teach anybody? No. Some people just don't care if their posts make them look illiterate. Point out errors and they call you a grammar Nazi. |

From what I've seen, one of the "abusers" of there/their is perhaps the most educated & literate poster on this entire website. It sure beats "them thar" But then, what do I know? |

Probably because they want to know what people are trying to say but don't have half an hour to spend deciphering it. |

Crew -- our local TV forecasters are the worst when it comes to adding "wise" to the end of words... must be easier than revising their statements to be grammatically correct! |

Kpm, agreed. Everytime the weather guy adds "wise" to the end of a word, my partner looks and me and smiles because he knows it bothers me so much. Weatherwise is NOT a word! |

can we teach forumers the difference between "keeping it real" and blind ignorant cheerleading? I tend to fall into the latter camp a bit reflexively at times, it appears.....as do many others. |

I like creating new words with adding "age" to the end of them (based on existing words such as slippage, drainage, drippage). These new words have the "idge" sound... new words such as "slappage", which is what Detroitrulez is going to get if he keeps up with the LEGO cracks.... |
