Does anyone know of any space around Wayne State or even downtown that does “hall rentals” for a small banquet dinner. I’m trying to convince a student organization to have the banquet around campus instead of out in the burbs but I have nothing to suggest that’s reasonable. Not looking for anything fancy here, no hotels or big restaurants. Just a cool venue with decent atmosphere on a student organization’s budget. We simply need “space”, no actual food preparation is necessary. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot! |

You might want to consider the Boll Family YMCA on Broadway. They have a variety of rooms that are used for various sized events. Parking is available on the street and across the street at the Opera House garage. |

Jams, that was for 500+ people. A small banquet dinner has a lot more options than a 500+ party. SaabDriver, I'm an event planner downtown, and I have lists of all kinds of downtown venues. Send me an email at jpierce@insidedetroit.org |

Harmonie, I know, but simply, this continually comes up. Suggest a weblink to a site such as yours to direct them. |

I am not sure if they still rent out, but the Unitarian church house at Cass and Prentis, right across from the Cass Cafe, could handle that. I had my wedding reception there. Cool historic place and they have some parking on the Forest side. |

The student center was my first choice. I love the campus and McGregor Memorial would have just been AMAZING (I love the architecture of that place) but its campus policy that any event held on campus has to be catered by a company that WSU has a contract with. The main focus of the dinner we are throwing is the ethnic food and so we cant expect this company to learn how to cook a variety of ethnic foods for one dinner. Unfortunate, but we understand the university’s position. |
