We have attended the wonderful open houses at the Map Library. The Map Library is an amazing repository, and I highly recommend attending an open house if you can! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Third Thursday Map Library Open House - September 18 , 2008 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. On the third Thursday of every month, the University of Michigan Map Library holds an informal open house. Our theme this month is "Charting the Seas." Please join us in our continuing open house series as we explore the history of mapping the oceans and Great Lakes. We will be displaying many nautical charts from our extensive collection including early charts of the Pacific Ocean, Lake Michigan and some 18th century French charts. Many of these maps were critical to commerce, exploration and the development of the modern world.
