Ricky Lee Jones, last night at the Concert of Colors.

She was great, although it took a little for her to get into her groove, the love from the crowd was NOT lost on her...and within a few songs she was really into it with her relatively young band.

You could see her coaching the drummer on a few songs, as if he had just learned them...and her electric bass player used a bow like on an upright bass...something I'd NEVER seen before.

The whole stage was relatively calm almost dead until halfway through, her violin/vocal accompanist seemed asleep at the mic until one upbeat tune and audience eruption...then she was awake and with everyone else.

The drummer made the show with his body-language antics, there is NO way this dude can play poker...every emotion displayed on his facial open book.

It was fun, and from my front-row far left vantage, it was quite intimate...lovely.

One song started with a quip about a monk with a hard-on...a diatribe against the Catholic altar-boy fiasco. Ricky Lee has never been one to mince words, and she showed very clearly why she's been a consistent force in music for decades, albeit without corporate success except perhaps with Chuckie's in Love many moons ago.

Cheers!

the Stooges at the Fox. The sound wasn't that great. I remember the Tragically Hip was playing at the State that night, and I wanted to have a battle in the parking lot after between fans. I called it USA vs. Canada, but no one was in but my pals, so we didn't get very far. lol

Oof, it's been a while. I think it was Gogol Bordello at the Majestic. Which was good, but not nearly as good as Gogol Bordello at Alvin's the prior year. Awesome to see them in a small venue.

The last "big" show I saw was Green Day on the American Idiot tour. That was pretty damn good stuff.

Unless you count Hot Club of Detroit at Cliff Bell's. But that doesn't seem "concert" as much as just going out.

James Taylor in Columbus Ohio. I went over there to have a get together with 5 ex-coworkers - but in the end it was just Debby and her daughter and son-in-law. We had a great time.

Concert of Colors Sunday. Amos Lee on Saturday. I could go every night if I didn't work.

How was Hold Steady, Mortgageking? I love that band.

Graham Parker is going to be at Callahan's in Auburn Hills in September. On a work night, of course.

The Hold Steady Rocked. I was more of a casual observer than a true fan (the true fans were up front and in the middle singing every line). I swear, that band has one of the most dedicated and lively fan-bases that I've seen in a while.

I've had "Little Hoodrat Friend" stuck in my head for almost a month.

I love the line "My name is Neil Schoen but some people call me Nina Simone". It manages to be smart and drunkenrockandroll all at once. They toss off lines like that with every song.

HEY wait a gd minute...unless that was MONDAY, it couldn't have been the 'last' concert you attended.

Unless, of course, you don't count your photo-groupie sessions with that hot drummer you sleep with nightly...heh.

There are concerts and there are concerts. It doesn't count when you tag along with the drummer! And it has to be a concert setting. I could count the free concerts, but I generally think of a concert as something I bought a ticket for that takes place in a theatre of some sort...

Got freebee tickets for the Kenny Chesney last night at Ford Field. Not being a country music fan, it was a good concert. Leann Rhimes and Keith Urban also played. I gotta tell ya, they were all good but Urban is more rock and he put on, I think, the best show. Uncle Kracker came out and did a couple of songs with Chesney...not bad but I think he was pretty lit!!
