"Murder By Death."
I will not do the movie, or any of you who have not seen it, the disservice of attempting to describe this absolutely hilarious spoof of murder mysteries and their characters.

Another dark comedy. I just watched You Kill Me with Ben Kingsley. Not a 5 star but I did think it a worthwhile rental.

We need a megathread for for the arts, movies, openings, CDs, shows, books, TV shows, and whatever creation we feel worthy of taking in and talking about. I always feel a bit intimidated starting a new thread about a movie, book or TV show I just experienced, but would like to change that. A Megathread would open up a whole new arena for Dyesers who love speaking on the different arts we've seen. Hell, there are some great commercials on TV that I find hilarious. Some artist made that silly ad that made me laugh and they should be spoken on. Not to mention multi million dollar movies that suck and the ones done on a tight budget that truly deserve to be seen.

Anyone,, anyone???

Oh yeah, Airplane is a classic. Im sure a lot of you are thinking "surely you cant be serious"

Couldn't get into it that much. But I still like his style of movie making.

In no particular order...

1) Animal House
2) Ferris Bueler's Day Off
3) Young Frankenstein (it's nice to see that Frau Blucher is still with us)
4) To Be Or Not To Be
5) Blazing Saddles
6) Airplane (Barbara Billingsly talking jive.. priceless!)
7) Laurel & Hardy - County Hospital (using the traction weight as a nutcracker... hilarious!)
8) Laurel & Hardy - Piano Case (Susie the Donkey wins the prize!)
9) 3 Stooges (any short with Curly)

But my all time favorite is a movie that people either love or hate (no middle ground)... and it was the most expensive comedy of all time...

10) Steven Spielberg's - 1941

Any Harold Llyod film is amazing to me, so physical and demanding split-second timing...especially interseting when you know he is missing half of one hand. yep, wore a glove with rubber fingers and you just can't tell which hand it is.

Oh, another thing about Harold Llyod. He was a still photographer as well. He was a fan of Betty Page, and some of the better know "Betty Page" poses were shot by LLyod.

Gnome,

I too read about that explosives accident that cause Harold Lloyd his hand injury.

He also never trusted the studio chains, and would often go to theatres incognito to check out the patron counts himself, to see if they were ripping him off on his movie royalties.

Just to add to the fun of watching The Groove Tube, a friend and I saw it at the Royal Oak Theater many years ago, and smuggled in one of those half gallon size milk cartons of Whoppers Malted Milk Balls. Well one of us forgot to close the carton, and set it down on the floor. Not sure who kicked it over when we were laughing hard, but it tipped over and the malted milk balls started rolling down through the seats. Many people jumped up..I guess they thought they were mice or something. It was hysterical. I recenty emailed my friend a photo of a Groove Tube ad and one for Whoppers. She called me up on the phone, laughing her head off.
"rollin' rollin' rollin'...hear them balls a rollin'"....etc.

Grumpy - back in the early eighty's, I was in a bar with a first date, watching the big screen TV with her. As the bartender flipped through the channels "The Groove Tube" came on and I asked him to leave it there.
I told her what a funny movie it was, and just then the STD TV ad parody came on, which featured a real "male package" dressed in a hat, suit, tie and cane delivering the lines.
She was mortified, I laughed my ass off, and we never saw each other again.
