Looking for a place to drop off a non-working TV. The Recycle Authority in Southfield (http://www.rrrasoc.org/southfi eld.html) will not accept TV's. Being a resident of Pontiac I cannot take it to SOCRRA (http://www.socrra.org/electron ics.html). Any input where I can take this?

Ann Arbor takes them, but there is a fee.

Put it out front of your house, I bet someone will take it.

Worked for my broken microwave oven.

Too bad. I bet that discourages a lot of people from dropping stuff off.

Thanks Pam but I think A2 is a bit far to go for me, plus the fee. I just may set it out on top of my trashbin next Monday night and watch it magically disappear by Tuesday morning! Then again, I could freecycle it...always some handyman out there.

Try the free listing at Detroit Craigslist.

Stay away from Rants and Raves though.

I’ve recycled many TV's. They contain plenty of scrap copper and aluminum. This goes for computer monitors as well.

Ditto for Craigslist. List under "free" and someone handy will take it. Worked for me, and the guy was delighted. I didn't have to schlep it anywhere :-)

Recycle detroit has a bin for old computers and office equipment. I suspect that TVs may fall be taken as well. I would recommend contacting them or just stopping by with your recycleables.

I believe that their grant funding is tied to total punds they recycle so any help there is a good thing.

Put it out front with a sign, "For Sale, $50.00". Someone will steal it.

According to some driver yesterday, the shoulder of 696 is the appropriate place to deposit old televisions.

Yeah, I'll second Recy-clean. They took my old scanner and other assorted electronic odds and ends without question and without charging a fee.

Normally down here put it in your front yard with a for sale sign on it. Be gone within a couple hours.

I suggest contacting David Letterman. he frequently finds ways to dispose of TVs.
