The greatest nearly non-stop euchre game in history was at the officer's waiting room in old Traffic and Ordinance court in the old Wayne County Building. It started about 6 a.m. each day and ran until four or five or whenever the last case was called. Couple of Referees used to drop in once in a while for a hand or two. Roman Gribbs was one of 'em.

Diamonds, orf. Alone.

I know of an online Euchre club that should be very good. Unfortunately I can't ethically disclose their name on other websites because they forbid reciprocal references. Go figure. Why would they make such a suicidal policy?

(A modest search effort would find them though.)

Apparently, nobody plays euchre in Milwaukee, where Sheepshead (Schafkopf) is THE game. In high school we (mostly everybody) played for small sums of money at lunch. Same thing at Marquette University there, for the townies (commuters) attending.

However, Madison is where I first even heard of euchre. They play both games at UW-Madison.

My senior year of high school a bunch of my friends and I had "senior math," a blowoff class you took to get a math credit if you couldn't pass regular math. We'd walk right in to class and immediately everyone would pull their desks into four and start playing Euchre. I miss playing Euchre. I find no one except East Siders know how to play!

Melody,
You must be kidding!

While I've lived on the Eastside (West Village, ironically) for almost twenty years, I'm a hardcore Westsider.

I've played euchre almost all of my life, both American and Canadian scoring systems. Many, many nights of my life have been wasted playing that game and drinking until dawn.

I just found out, Whiskey in the Jar, every Wednesday (except tomorrow). Around 8 p.m. It's really casual, naturally, it's the Whiskey...

I always say that the only religion my family ever truly practiced was Euchre. My dad was kind of like a guru that remembered every card played and could anticipate every move. I've been playing since before I was born:-)
I tried to get a euchre night going downtown awhile back but there wasn't too much interest. The Anchor Bar tried it and same thing. They have a great big back room that would be perfect should there be a desire.

They are under a new owner now and have Euchre on Saturday sometimes. Kind of a dive bar though.
