I'm sorry. This is so trivial, but it is driving The Little Woman crazy, and I wish to deliver her from her maddened state.
She has developed a taste for reruns of JAG. (I know, I know...) They do this thing where they show the chronology of events on the lower-left of the screen, and with military time, they use the term, "ZULU."
Somebody, PLEASE explain.

zulu time is military time. it is the same all throughout the world to eliminate time-zone confusion. eg: 1:00pm would be 1:00pm everywhere, except it would probably be called 1300 zulu time.

ahh wikipedia; here's a more defined answer:
quote:

The UTC [coordinated universal time] time zone is sometimes denoted by the letter Z – a reference to the equivalent nautical time zone (GMT), which has been denoted by a Z since about 1950. The letter also refers to the "zone description" of zero hours, which has been used since 1920. See time zone history. Since the NATO phonetic alphabet and amateur radio word for Z is "Zulu", UTC is sometimes known as Zulu time. This is especially true in aviation, where Zulu is the universal standard.[10] This ensures all pilots regardless of location are using the same 24-hour clock, thus avoiding confusion when flying between time zones.

No, Coordinated Universal Time; get with the times!

While were at it, please make sure you pronounce your 5s with two "f"s - "Fife" - as in Fife & Drum. And Q always sounds better as Kay-beck, not Que-bec.

Zulu isn't one person, it is many. About 20 million Zulu people live mainly in South Africa, and form that country's largest ethnic group.

A big Thank You to all who replied with some relevant info. A big Thanks For Nothing to those who-- seemingly-- did not read my post, and posted irrelevant geo-ethnic information.
