Did someone say LEGO..... Welcome to the forum Cwl704!!! Nice model!!! It's nice to have several AFOLs on this forum (Adult Fan Of Lego). And by the way, this model does have train wheels (part of the 9 volt LEGO Train System). I suppose you know Jim Garrett who did the Fisher Building and David Stott Building models. Are his models going to be there as well? GISTOK |

Hey Gary..we know each other from about 5 years ago(we talked via email when you worked at UofM.I'm Chris Leach))Jim is bringing the david Stott but not Fisher as our layout won't be that large(5x15 feet layout). He is also building the Penobscot building http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi- bin/gallery.cgi?f=217992 for NMRA. I will be doing another version of the Dime Building and perhaps cobohall or something(Along with a large/longer version of the Peoplemover ,my version of the Flatiron building and other stuff..alot of which can be seen in this picture http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi- bin/gallery.cgi?i=1322246 Chris |

Hi Chris! I've been busy with the 1,000 page LEGO SETS/PARTS COLLECTORS GUDE, which will be going out this weekend on CD. Everything you ever wanted to know about LEGO going back to 1949. No one has ever written a collectors guide for LEGO, until now. I worked on this for 3 grueling years, with help from folks in 9 countries, and also from the Lego Archives in Denmark. |

I also am an AFOL. Small world. A while back I consulted Jim Garrett about his method as i was interested in doing a recreation of MCS as lego fans are especially train oriented. Alas I did many mock ups and the price would ahve been more than I can handle right now. I have a brickshelf gallery also but it is out of date. Ill see you guys at the DSO show |

You non-LEGO noobs need to get with the program. There's 300,000,000 people worldwide (adult and children) that have played with LEGO. There's a whole world of at least 50,000 or more AFOLs out there! There's conventions, shows, train shows, you name it. And it all started in Billund Denmark in 1949 when Ole Kirk Christiansen installed the first plastic injection mold for "Automatic Binding Bricks". Today their family is one of 2 billionaire families in Denmark (the other owns Maersk shipping). I personally have 3/4 million bricks in my collection. |

As Cwl704 just mentioned, lots of people who played with LEGO as a kid, and then have kids of their own, find a "renewal" of their interest in building with LEGO. That period between being a LEGO building teenager and a LEGO building adult is humorously known as "the Dark Ages"! There are even LEGO acronyms.... BURP... "Big Ugly Rock Piece" SNOT.... "Studs Not On Top" MOC... "My Own Creation" |

I LOVED Legos. I went nuts for them really. I used to build replicas of major league stadiums to scale. They looked really good, but never did get any pictures taken. My favorite was the Pirates of The Caribbean set they had. Wow, the memories have some back. |

Cwl704, do you create things like that froot loop box by just eyeballing it or is there software that can convert a digital photo to a Lego construction plan? It might be possible to design a robot to do the construction work from the plan. Then you could do Lego portraits of people on the spot! Has someone already designed such a system? |

A system allready excists to do portraits of people. Not sure if they still do it it but at one time you could go to Lego.com upload a picture and they would send you instructions and the parts. As for the froot loop box I did that somewhat on the computer http://www.miltontrainworks.co m/MTW/services/KCC/images/FL_w orking_thePlan1.jpg but made hundreds of changes as I built. |

Now that is really cool! I'd still like to see a robot build it though. It could compose maybe two courses at a time then eject that strip onto a plate where it's pressed onto previously accumulated courses, kind of like a linotype machine or a Jacquard loom. Imagine an enormous Random dot stereogram produced with such a beast! |

To quote those annoying Amway commercials... You got a problem with that?? LEGO is a multi-billion dollar a year hobby. And yes adults do still "play with Legos" (although "LEGO" is singular and plural). And there is a growing market of LEGO builders, collectors, and collectibles out there, just like with all other toy collectibles. Only this one still gets used! And there are LEGO collectibles out there worth hundreds of dollars. Some LEGO Bionicle masks have sold for thousands. Ditto for some LEGO sets (I recently saw one sell on EBAY for $2700!). LEGO is a growing hobby... there are probably 50-100 thousand Adults Fans Of Lego (AFOLs), as well as millions of children. LEGO it ain't just for kids anymore!! |
