I remember right around the middle of October there was a thread saying that the speed limit on 696 would be raised to 70 end to end on November 9th. A month later, the posted limit is still 65. Anyone know what happened with this? (I would have posted in the original thread, but it was disabled)

It is 70 even though the signs have not yet changed.

I think some of the other freeways have changed as well, though maybe that is only for truck traffic.

I did not find anything on MDOT but you can do a google search and find some info.

I guess they figured most people are going 70 anyway, so there's no hurry to spend all the money changing signs.

I remember hearing that despite the change, the 65 speed limit would be enforced until the new signs were up. I can't find a source, but I know I heard that on one of the local news stations.

From what I remember from the Free Press article, MDOT is just behind replacing all the speed limit signs, and that the limit is enforced at 70.

I've always maintained that all of the Detroit area freeway numbers ARE the speed limits.

Seems about right.

I-94 from Lonyo to the Tire was always my personal Bonneville Salt Flats.

Could never keep up on I-375, though, spun out and hit the wall my very first time on it. OK, that's a lie, I won the race but we both lost.

UGH, horrible lesson to joke about...but it was a lesson.

"It is 70 even though the signs have not yet changed."

State Police say different - posted limits WILL be enforced. We are not allowed to drive 70 until the signs SAY 70.

That's like in East Lansing, where after a legal battle with the city to keep it from doing so, M-DOT has allegedly changed Saginaw St. back to 45 MPH from 35 (again), but the signs haven't been changed.

There's a speed limit on I-696? Who knew?!
