French rule of Detroit ends.
At noon, the French Fleur-de-lis was lowered and the British Union Jack was raised. The peaceful transfer of power on the parade ground at Fort Detroit that day was shattered less than three years later by one of the most formidable Native American uprisings in American history.

Big surprise there.

November 29th 1960 8:12 am @ Brent General Hospital, 16260 Dexter at Florence in the "D" born is Aschar76. Happy Birthday to me.

For some enjoyable background reading on the events of this time, I recommend Kenneth Roberts' "Northwest Passage."

Happy (mutual) Birthday, Aschar76!

FWIW, the French and Indian War lasted from 1756-1763. Fighting had ended on September 6, 1760, but the Treaty of Paris wasn't signed until 1763.

It was British until after the War of Independence, although it was invaded and occupied briefly during the War of 1812.

quote:

although it was invaded and occupied briefly

Actually, General Hull surrendered it without firing a shot, an action he was later court marshalled for. Invaded is a bit of a stretch.

Happy b'day, Aschar. And 6 years to the day after you were born, and that would be 40 years ago today, the freighter Daniel J. Morrill went down in Lake Huron with all hands but one (Dennis Hale) lost.

Lots of activity on Nov. 29--both in Detroit and on Lake Huron.

Thanks for the link to Tiffany's, Aschar. I just went there today with my girlfriend BeadGrl. The bar burger was fantastic! And they have cans of Black Label for only $1. Defintely going back when it's warmer though.
