I was wondering what if any progress has been made recently at creating bike paths and greenways in the city?

I love the dequindre cut I just wish there was more that linked up to it. If there could be a bike lane on Grand river, Grand blvd, woodward gratiot, jefferson, Michigan, Trumbull, mack, Warren, cass, and outer drive it would really open up the biking opportunities in the city.

Aren't they supposed to be creating access right into the Cut from Eastern Market? Landscaped and all?

A bike path was built this summer connecting two parks in SW Detroit and Dearborn.

Yep. The last I heard there was a meeting the day after the elections to push the city along on this project. Apparently the hold up is an undocumented sewer line within the Cut that needs to be dealt with.

The Connor Creek Greenway segment near the airport and Riverwalk are both new.

IMHO, with few exceptions, Detroit is wide open for biking even without bike lanes. Once you're ridden around the city enough, you'll find you can get anywhere with minimal hassle -- unlike most of the suburbs.

That said, it has been found that bike lanes help encourage newer riders. Michigan Ave is getting bike lanes and Gratiot may as well.

Yeah... pretty much every road in this city is a bike lane -- there's almost no traffic!
