I'm thinking William Clay Ford has a moment of lucidity and actually fires Matt Millen in 2007. Or at least I'm hoping beyond all hope of hopes that he will.

The city will dodge yet another year of state takeover due to the democratic majority in Lansing.

Other than that, I unfortunately don't expect to see or hear anything comparing with '06.

2. MORE HOUSING AND RETAIL, BUT LESS BUYERS

3. MORE JOB LOSSES

4. MORE BLACK FLIGHT TO THE SUBURBS

iheartthed, the mistake was intentional.

Danny, don't hate the skinny white youngsters. If we didn't get accosted so severely you might see us more often at places like the Turkey Grill or O'Quin's Shrimp House. be nicer and we'll get plumper!

Danny has been saying this for years. His predictions will probably turn out to be correct, but you must take Danny with a grain of salt....

Bussey,

I don't hate hip cool skinny young white folks who are moving back to Detroit to live a have a great time. As a Protestant Christian/ member of the Ghettoman's STREET PHOPHETS I wasn't taught to hate your neighbor.

Upinottawa,

You must remember that I'm one of the Ghettoman's STREET PROPHETS #174 His top representative. Most of our predictions comes true unless we can alter our destiny.

Motownman,

I get my urban research mostly from M.I.M.I.C. Demographics at the Centers of Urban Studies at Wayne State University, U.S. Census and SEMCOG. And yes, next year Detroit's Black population is shrinking faster. Black flight has began. By the end of 2007, Detroit's Black population would decrease to 590,000 making Detroit city wide population to decrease to 790,000. More white-folks are coming back to city not by the families but only hip cool skinny young white adults. The ethnic Arabs, East Indians, Mexicans and Hispanics are contributing to population growth. You will see in 50 years when Detroit went from a mostly black city into a diverse metropolis.

Focusonthed,

I have seen more hip cool skinny white young adults all around that midtown area then chubby white young adults. There some emotional judging based on outlook appearance and its up to person to decided what person who should hang out.

I agree with Danny. I also think Detroit as a downtown destination will take many small steps next year.

There will be more black flight, especially from the East side (like over by Osborn and Pershing) and the West side (like the Grandmonts.) There will be some suburbanites who will move downtown also. Detroit's rebirth started with downtown. I think it will continue to spread outward five to ten blocks at a time. But, I don't think the true rebirth will catch hold until the summer of '08.

I think the permanent MGM Grand casino and Motorcity casino will be completed in 2007. That's a big deal!

I think that Greektown Casino will be cash tight, and seek a minority partner with deep pockets.

I also think that when permanent MGM and MotorCity Casinos open, Grand River between Bagley and Motor City Casino will start seeing some other new planned developments (besides the GAR and a possible new Hockey Arena).

^ Invisible people?

So does that mean we'll have more illegal aliens who clean our office buildings after we leave for the day or whom we pretend are skilled trades people (without an office, telephone and just so happen to hang out in the parking lot of Home Depot)?
