I just saw an ad on Channel Seven for the "Rochester Hometown Christmas Parade." This after I saw Royal Oak had a Thanksgiving/MAGIC Parade over the weekend.

Is this a recent phenomenon or have the burbs been having these lil parades for a while?

Rochester has had theirs for a long time. Only recently has WXYZ been broadcasting it. It seems like there is some sort of deal or arrangement between WXYZ and the Rochester chamber of commerce because throughout the broadcast they awkwardly spotlight local businesses or unique reasons why shopping on Rochester’s main street is fantastic.

Oh Red Knapps and Heritage Gallery are such a great combo!

Naturally, parades should be banned from suburban communities.

The annual Warren-Center Line Holiday Parade was cancelled two years ago due to lack of funds. The 2006 edition of the Mt. Clemens Santa Parade was cancelled for the same reason, but I just read that it was given a last-minute reprieve and the parade will go on if they can find enough volunteer workers. Some of these suburban parades rent their floats from The Parade Company.

Berkley has a Holiday Lights Parade scheduled for Saturday, December 2 (http://www.berkleymich.org/web /Holiday_Lights_Parade.asp).

Northville just had their Holiday Lighted Parade last Friday evening.
