Do they actually call Border Cities Arena "The Barn"? If so, it seems to be THE nickname for every old hockey arena in North America, i.e.: the old Spokane Arena, "The Boone Street Barn".

Are Mike and Marian Illitch planning to buy this arena, to preserve an important piece of Red Wings history?

So they let the cows, sheep and goats roam about the city streets until the hockey games are over, then come back into the barn? :P

Yeah, the Olympia was the "brick barn".

Just saw a thing on cable yesterday on the show, "Made in America". Did'ja know that a set of goalie leg pads cost $1,600? Wow!

Nice shots, Andrew.

Fantastic pictures AIW!
Ray1936, my brother used to build pads for Brian's in Kingsville, which then became Heaton's. A lot of NHL goalies use their pads and equipment. In fact, my brother helped design the looks and build the pads for Patrick Roy.

Goat, from what I recall it was Brian Heaton who owned both Brian's and Heaton's at one time. I played minor hockey in Kingsville with his son Ryan -- a goalie who always had great equipment!

Aiw, those pictures are very good.

Goat, are their prices the same as the ones I saw on that TV show? It did show the way they were made, and it was very labor-intensive.

Only pads I had as a kid were long johns. My shins still ache on occasion.........

Olympia was known as Red Barn. Anybody remember when you took electric feeder buses there on Grand River? Bet old newsboys like Ray1936 remembers like it was yesterday.

Ray1936, I am not sure of the comparison in pricing as I do not know what they quoted on the T.V. I do know that they are more expensive than your average pads at the local sports store.

UIO, You are correct. His first company was Brian's and then it went to Heaton's. He closed Brian's down a few years later.
