I need some good recommendations for antique stores in the area. Of course, I can probably look up locations in the yellow pages, but would like to hear first hand. Does anybody know of any place that has a good selection of Detroit related items? I do know that there are several good ones in Romeo, but it is a ways. |

These three were featured in Model D back in February. I've been in a few and you need a whole day to shop and enjoy. They were all helpful in trying to find what I was looking for and all had tons of original Detroit items. Excerpt from : http://www.modeldmedia.com/fea tures/swvisiting.aspx Michigan Avenue may not rival Somerset or Royal Oak, but it certainly has its charms for a particular breed of consumer: the antiquer. Michigan Avenue is home to three antique shops well worth the visit. In fact, the piece you pass up one Saturday will probably show up in a better-known shop the following week—at a significant markup. So, bargain-hunters of the world, spend a day perusing the dusty shelves and cluttered floors of Michigan Avenue’s trifecta of antique stores and emerge with a treasure or two. The shops are all on the south side of the street and are located, from west to east, at 7807 Michigan Avenue west of Central, 7105 Michigan Avenue east of Central, and at 6885 Michigan Avenue west of Martin. |

Antique store on Mack between 7 & 8 mile in the Gross Pointe area. Good prices for excellent antiques. The antique stores in Royal Oak are all over-priced. DT has a good idea of where some decent (though you have to wade through a lot of junk)antique stores are. Dumouchelles is an auction house. Most of the items they sell directly to the public (without auction) are reproductions. |

Detroit Antique Mart/Detroit Salvage is a good place to hunt. Next to Cass Tech. I'd like to get back there at some point. If it is still there...Knightsbridge Antiques on 7 mile in Northville is a good place too. |

While we're on this antiques thread, does anyone have, or know of an antique dealer who is selling old J.L Hudson shopping bags? the thick paper bags with the rope (twine?) handle and the Hudsons logo. I'm looking for a couple from the 50's-60's for a display I'm working on. |
