Somebody really screwed up on this one. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/article?AID=/20061111/NEW S05/611110343 "the pages -- which include Malcolm X's unpublished 13-point plan for African Americans to achieve true integration through economic, social and political empowerment -- have turned from white to brownish-yellow...the pages also bear a white stripe from being held down by bands while on display until about 2002" |

Makes the museum look pretty dumb. Probably doesn't do much to improve the reputation of Detroit's Museum of African American History. They won't be getting any artifacts on loan ever again in the near future. Now they will have to buy the items outright and probably run low on funds, or don't buy anything and have nothing to display. |

A side note to anyone preserving artifacts: get digitized images. There's an important distinction between digital and analog archives. When analogs are copied, they degrade. When digitals are copied, they tend to be restored (due to rounding to the nearest digital increment). The cumulative effect will be that one day only digital archives will remain extant. |

Not until you digitize those babies! Seriously, burning DVDs on your own PC isn't enough. Those DVDs use a degradable dye-based technology. For the important stuff use a pro. |
