DIA nails $3 million challenge grant

The Troy-based Kresge Foundation has offered the Detroit Institute of Arts a lucrative carrot in the form of a $3 million matching grant.

The museum, which is in the midst of a $180 million fundraising campaign to pay for its sweeping expansion and renovation project, has to raise $15 million in the next 18 months to receive Kresge’s $3 million.

DIA officials say the grant represents the largest single foundation gift to the DIA’s campaign. The grand reopening of the museum is scheduled for November 2007.

you are only able to sell works to acquire new ones. money received from the sale of artwork in the collection may not be used for operating funds, which is where the funds are needed most.

Yeah, DIA doesnt literally own its works, they are donated with stipulation or purchased by the Founders Society. Thank god.

Under The Stars© 2006: The Final Hard Hat Party That Rocks!

This year, as renovation work moves to the museum’s interior spaces in preparation for the 2007 grand re-opening, the DIA’s premier fundraising gala will be the Final Hard Hat Party that Rocks! Under the Stars® 2006 on November 11.

The 2005 Under the Stars was one of the most successful events held at the DIA. Event Chairs David and Jennifer Fischer continue to lead the march into the future, bringing creative and innovative ideas to make this year’s event even better.

The Hard Hat Party that Rocks is an evening filled with art, entertainment, and food. Guests embark on tours of newly renovated museum spaces, enjoy a strolling dinner, and dancing in Rivera Court. They also have the opportunity to view the exhibition Annie Leibovitz: American Music. Under the Stars continues to generate critical support for the preservation of the DIA’s priceless collection of art and for continuing renovations to the museum.

For sponsorship opportunities or ticket information, please call 313.833.7969 or e-mail treid@dia.org.

Save the Date for the Grand Re-opening Under the Stars on November 10, 2007!

There are a limited number of $50 tickets available!
