Hmm, it looks like Motor City is coming along a little better than I had expected aesthetically. Some of the renderings were horrendous, but this isn't too bad. Although I wish the building wasnt just simply a rectangular wall Flybydon- why do all three casinos want you on a 2-month delay, and how did they come up with that time period??? thanks |

Mikem, That's a pretty bizare pic: a huge casino with cranes seemingly coming up in the back yard of some simple housing. At least folks have something interesting to look at out the back window while they're building. |

Why do you say that IhearttheD? Do you think that there will be infill development, such as office building and hi-density residential? Do you think that there will be nothing, more urban prarie?? I see no reason those houses have to go.... Could you please clarify? |

Jdkeepsmiling, I thin Iheartthed is referring to a future parking structure that will spring up right there. I wouldn't be surprised if it would really happen... |

Are those houses really that close to the casino? It looks to me like they might be further away then they initially appear. |

The picture was taken from the intersection of the Fisher Fwy service drive and Trumbull. There are two streets between the houses and the casino: http://maps.google.com/maps?q= Trumbull+St+%26+Fisher+Fwy+W,+ Detroit,+MI+48216&ie=UTF8&hl=e n&z=17&ll=42.335247,-83.068485 &spn=0.005663,0.010632&t=h&om= 1 |

I'm still confused as to how MGM and MotorCity will turn out as neither of their colors look like the renderings...yet. Are they going to coat the windows to give the MGM the golden/bronze sheen in the renderings, because it's about as blue-silver as you can get. And, where's all of the whacky/tacky extras for the MotorCity? I'm not complaining, but I'm surprised how much different these are turning out than the renderings, more so than most renderings come to life. |

The casinos are somewhat unique even in modern day construction terms. The casinos are in such a rush to be the first to open that they do all kinds of crazy things. The stories I've heard from other contractors... Does the outside of the MGM hotel look cheap to anyone besides me so far? I know it's not finished, and I have hope it will improve, but it looks like the outside of a large metal butler building at this point... |

Llyn, go to Vegas or AC. Thats how they all look there too. These things get built fast and they change skins often. |

Yeah, these hotel/casinos go up especially fast because they cut all kinds of corners, more so than in the average office or residential building, that's not even to mention how little the hotel part of these type of projects means to the whole project. They make almost all of their money off the casino. |

I did not mean to sound like these are flimsly built things. The industry still remembers what happened at the old MGM Grand when the building caught on fire! |

They still do, but, as with anything, they've found a way to do as little as possible to 'correct' the problem. Casino hotels are still some of the most flimsily built of high-rise structures from what I understand. |
