Hello my fellow Detroiters. I have some friends coming from Atlanta this weekend. They have never been to Detroit and they are very excited about coming. I don't want to disappoint them, but I have not been able to find many things going on this weekend. I don't want them to spend all of there time or money in the burbs. I wanted to know if anyone knew of any events, new restaurants, museums, etc that will be open this weekend? Thank you in advance and God Bless you all. |

I'll be in town too. And the GF and I are planning to be downtown this weekend for a world series championship! Other than that, I haven't really done much searching for anything else going on. I'm hoping at least for a game 6 and that should take care of my saturday One of my favorites is the Henry Ford museum. It is technically not in Detroit, but the Rouge tour is really well done, definitely worth doing. DIA is worth visiting, even if you're not an art freak, the Diego Rivera murals are worth seeing and can be appreciated by nearly anyone. Isn't there a new cultural museum or the Detroit history museum re-opening? Preservation wayne might be worth browsing http://preservationwayne.org/t ours.php Motor City heritage http://www.experienceeverythin gautomotive.org/default.asp Edsel Ford home is amazing and certainly worth seeing. I guess thats about all I can think of off the top of my head. True locals might have some better ideas, and I'm interested in listening too! Go Tigers! Try this too http://www.visitdetroit.com/th ingstodo/events/ |

There is an Annie Leibovitz exhit at the DIA. There is more info at http://www.dia.org/calendar/to day_at_the_dia/item.asp?webite mid=735 or you could see an IMAX show at the Detroit Science center. There is more info at http://www.sciencedetroit.org/ theaters/IMAX.htm I recently saw the Coral Reef Adventure film and enjoyed it. Plus they have a new Magic exhibit at the science center which looks fun (http://www.sciencedetroit.org/ events/MAGIC.htm) |

There is the possibility of a baseball game or two this weekend. In addition, there is the Detroit Marathon on Sunday morning. |

Ya know, sometimes I really love having a drink and lounging. Where is the best place to do this and get some blues music? Does a good place exist around Detroit? |

Inside Detroit is having a Baseball Pub Crawl on Friday night and a highlights tour Saturday afternoon. Friday they're going to places that are good for game watching but that are a little farther away from the stadium. More info at www.insidedetroit.org But for jazz, Buzz or Cliff Bells in the Downtown Area. |

Highly recommend the Brad Felt NuQuartet at Cliff Bell's on Saturday nite. Brad's group features Rob Pipho, a fine voice on vibes, Bill Higgins on the tubs and Pat Prouty on bass. Brad plays tuba/euphonium. www.cliffbells.com |

If you like house music and dancing all night, there is a great spot on saturdays called the element on grand river just west of Woodward. No alcohol but you can dance till dawn. I think the add is 35 Grand River, 3A or 3B (Message edited by mw2gs on October 26, 2006) |
