I stumbled across this sample mapping application produced by an East Lansing firm which allows you to find championship trees and other large specimens:

I love nature and usually take note of large trees. I know of a couple which could definitely be champions. I think I have two which will make the list. Will have to work on this over the Winter.

Being stuck in a desert for too many years, I was scratching my head until I found this: http://www.championtrees.org/c hampions/index.htm .

I love trees. Has anyone ever done spectral analyses of digital photos of trees while they're changing color? I wonder if that data could be correlated with tree health or some other useful data? It seems like it would be pretty easy to do once it's set up.

Jimaz - Yes, spectral or infared analysis has been used by the forestry dept to analyze tree health
