Cute! When did that go up? I really do need to take a Woodbridge walk before the weather gets too cold.

Barrabas Youth Center - the Summer in the City suburban youth program kicked in to create the mural for this organization. Imagine, evil soulless suburbanite tourists coming down to spruce up the City during their summer vacation ! Great program.

The sun reflection on the ground - which can be really appreciated in this AMAZING flybydon view - is made of reclaimed brick from demolition sites around the City.

Wait though - a giraffe ? There are no giraffes occuring in Detroit naturally, so we MUST put car ads over the mural IMMEDIATELY.......heh.

that's the first thing I thought when I drove by a few weeks ago....."a giraffe?"

everyone loves giraffes, but is there any particular reason this long necked creature was choosen?

it really is a nice welcome to the neighborhood...
I'm happy just thinking about it:-)

I think the giraffe image was the second choice, right after a pimp smacking down his 'ho.

I thought Dobermans were the official Woodbridge mascot?

It's actually abandoned ex-fighter pitbulls. :-(

Anyways, perhaps they choose a giraffe because it helped to cover the remnants left by the building that was torn down beside it. If you look closely, cinder blocks extend out from his neck.

Good spot sport. I must have driven or walked past that mural more than a dozen times and never noticed those blocks. Kudos to the artist.
