I saw a horse-drawn carriage downtown a week ago. Does anyone know if it's permanent and how/where to get on?

Thanks.

Um...they've been downtown for like...I don't know, 7 months now?

ItsJeff, meet Detroit. Detroit, meet ItsJeff.

Seriously, where you been? I've even seen the horse and buggies out on Thursday nights.

I just saw the back ends and assumed you were walking to/from a bar.

I like that they have orange triangles on the back of the carriages. I think that means, "slow moving gay person." Awesome!

I've seen them too from FSC at the Well. Where are they based out of and who runs them? I like them, kind of gives a New York flavor to downtown.

Actually, people, not horses, would give a NY flavor to downtown.

(Unless you are talking about the St. Lawrence County Amish Communities)

A Masonic brother of mine by the name of Speed Miller owns one of the carriages. He is a member of the Black Horse Owners association as well.

The horse and buggies should have no problem with the non-existent traffic downtown.

Preserve Detroit, back to pre-Henry Ford and John King days. Detroit, maker of fine coaches.

How about some buggies rides around Belle Isle, New Orleans style?

jjaba.

Vizion, how do you arrange a ride? Is there a stand somewhere?

Thanks.

I think the sign reads "Frederick", but I'd have to find the higher res one to be sure; no time now, have to start dinner.

We may have horses pulling carriages, but when's the last time anyone has seen an actual Checker Cab in this town? I don't mean the company, I mean the former Kalamazoo manufacturer. Detroit used to have a lot of Checkers. What a treat to ride in one--comfortable, spacious, room for luggage and packages. You even had a stool to sit on facing backward.
'Dem were the days....Gone but not forgotten.

And speaking of that wonderful photo of the street cleaner, Mr. Woodfill, former owner of Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, used to have a hissy-fit if horse poop was found on the street in front of his beveloved hotel. He had an expression,to go along with his policy for the street cleaners who regularily patrolled the front of the Grand:
"Get it while it's hot!"
