Simply amazing.

We do live in a gorgeous world. It's just that every now and then we need to look up and appreciate it.

Those are probably nice photos, but I'm too pissed off about losing our Marhsall Field's heritage to appreciate them.

I actually thought they provide some nice contrast, Miss_Cleo. Beautiful pictures, A_Franklin, thanks for sharing them.

Miss, I'm completely baffled by why you even bother with a messageboard about a city as large as Detroit. You obviously prefer and are enamored with rural life, and I don't understand what would interest you about Detroit. Could you provide us some insight?

I came in from walking my dog last night and told my wife that that was the most beautiful sunset I'd ever seen. Thanks for the pics.

Nice, A_franklins_son. I saw that gorgeous sky from Campus Martius last night; the color was brilliant.

As for the power lines, I find they add a special poignancy to the urban beauty. I wrote an entire essay based on this picture from my old Hamtown backdoor:

Nice shots. I really miss the nice sunsets in Detroit and Michigan in general. In the Las Vegas valley, where I'm at, nice sunsets are rare. First, because there's usually no cloud cover of any kind, and second, because the sun dips behind the mountains to the west way before astronomical sunset.

So thanks for posting those!
Memories.......:-)

The Loeb estate is alive and well. I think its called Castle Farms. I believe it is now being run by the late owner's daughter. It has become a popular spot for weddings. It had previously gotten a little out of hand with the rock concerts which kept the local police quite busy and many of the locals upset.
I believe the late owner was former attorney Art Riebel with whom I went to law school.

And I thoroughly enjoyed the Charlevoix sunsets for the ten years we were up there as well as the sun rises over Lake Charlevoix. But I still saw some pretty decent Detroit sunsets out of my my windows from both the 32nd floor of the Guardian Building and the 15th floor of 333 W. Fort Street.
Charlevoix does not have a monopoly on sunsets in my book.

Here's another lame picture for Mani. It came out kinda blurry but it's the 09/01 sunset reflected on the Ren Cen. Picture from the upper upper deck of Comerica during the game.

Here is how a Detroit sunset, as so beautifully captured by Franklin, paints the interior of my home:

Miss_cleo,
If you really want Charlevoix to stay devoid of houses and powerlines for the foreseeable future, wouldn't it be in your best interest not to announce to the world how wonderful it is? That's right, just stay in your own little isolated bubble 15 miles from your nearest neighbour and don't worry about us sunset-deprived ignoramuses stuck in the city.

Kilgore_south, come on that picture is bloody awful. If that is the best you can do, why bother? That image is picture incorrect in many ways. The warm sunset projecting onto Ghetto_butterflies wall is very nice, makes me want to take a snuggly nap.

thanks Miss Cleo for the update. I think the old Loeb estate was torn down in the 70s in Hyde Park, south Chicago. So much money, so much tragedy. Again, thanks. Jane :-)
