It goes "Put your hands up for Detroit - I love this city!" and it's one of this summer's club anthems, an electro house dancefloor tune that's been on all the charts and airwaves (read here), just not anywhere around here. Take a listen here, check out the Claude Von Stroke PACKARD PLANT remix here and even get it as a ringtone here. Just something to kick off the weekend with. |

Yeah, Matt Dear already made a song called "Hands Up for Detroit" in 1999. It's Ghostly's first 12" release. Couldn't this be considered infringement? |

Wazootyman, No, Im not. And as Spaceboykelly mentions, these lyrics have already been used in another techno song by Ghostly, so it even cements my point of commercial artists like this being late on the take. I thought the lyrics sounded familiar, but I wasn't going to make THAT accusation at 4 in the morning. Believe when I say this song it's about as commercial as it gets. I know plenty of Dutch techno artists that are influenced by Detroit, but this is a bit much, especially when it's not original. Packard Plant remix?!? Please. |

Wow! I've been a fan of Ghostly for a few years and unfortunately didn't get into Matthew Dear until I moved away from Detroit, realizing that now that I couldn't see him on a monthly basis for around ten bucks that I'd be willing to pay big bucks to see him when he does come around. Anyways, the two tracks share the same sample, "Put your hands up for Detroit, I love this city" but are otherwise very different. GHS-001 has long been sold out and only 1000 copies were ever printed. Meanwhile, I am betting the new track that's out now has probably sold thousands of copies. I seriously doubt Matt Dear owns the vocal sample and both artists are likely infringing on some other work. This isn't about being real Detroit techno at all, it's a fun party tune and I see it as a huge homage to Detroit from a Dutchman. |

Ok, seriously people, that sounds like a generic soundtrack for an Atari 2600 game with some drum and bass added in. |

During July, I visited the Netherlands with my family, and while we were there, we met some of our extended extended family for an evening (they're about 6th cousins). While explaining to some of the kids that we were from Detroit and that's where they make cars, they got all excited and told me about this song. How can it be that I'm from Detroit and had never heard of it, but kids in Amsterdam had? ha ha |

Sounds like someone's ripping someone off here. Wasn't "Stand Up For Detroit" a promo that Channel 7 ran in the 80's? After all, we're 4 Detroit, right? Oops, there I go again. |
