Fred T. Smith: Author wrote books on the Tigers: Troy resident was baseball historian

"Fred T. Smith, a noted baseball historian and author who wrote a dozen books on the Detroit Tigers, died Thursday of congestive heart failure at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. The Troy resident was 89.

"The three loves in his life were family, church and baseball, but I'm not exactly sure what order they came in," said his wife, Virginia.

The titles of some of the books Mr. Smith published include "Tiger Trivia" and "Fifty Years with the Tigers."
