$1,200,000 seems like a lot for this house. I know it has so much history but it does not look like it is in the best of shape. We have had a few great threads about it as well. A forumer actually lived in it for a while.

I will be taking donations toward my purchase of this home, as its 11 bedrooms deserve to be filled with the laughter of children once more.

Each one-time donation will also entitle you to the right to make an annual subscription donation to the paying of the taxes.

Oh, and cookies. Every $20k you donate gets you a batch of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. There's no better deal out there!

:D

Seriously, it always worries me a bit when homes like this come on the market. We just don't have the very high-end demand in the city for homes like this more often than not, and that saddens me.

Patrick,

How do you know it's current state? Those pictures tell a pretty nice story. So does this link.

http://detroit1701.org/Fisher% 20(Charles)%20Home.html

What should 11 bedrooms cost?

How dare that realttor not have a photo of the exterior on that page.

The exterior looks rough as of today. Willing to bet that the slate roof is original and probably needs to be replaced soon.

replacing the slate will cost about half the price of the house. Slate will last over 100 years, even 200 years but damn does it cost alot.

To me, this is one of the very finest houses in metro Detroit! It's an enormous red brick Tudor Revival mansion. The lot, befittingly large, extends all the way back to the next street (Glynn Court) as do all the lots on that stretch of Boston Blvd.

Mrs. Fisher maintained her residency on Boston Blvd. until her death sometime in the late 70's or early 80's. The 1974 Blue Book (the most recent documentation that I have at hand) also gives her country residence as Dixiana Farm, Lexington, KY, and her winter home as 555 Ocean Drive, Golden Beach, FL.

The house just to the west is the former Briggs (Briggs Stadium) House.

If I had the capital, I would buy it. The craftsmanship that went into this home is amazing. Could a trust be created to maintain the home, open it up to tourist etc? Like the Ford Estate in Grosse Pointe.

That's a wonderful idea!! Given its Boston-Edison location, this Fisher House would be a fine addition to the Auto Barons Tour!!!

It's stunning! The only reason anyone would hesitate on buying it is location, location, location.

Which is why the price seems too high Morena.I had a friend back in high school that lived in Barton hills near Ann Arbor. His parents house was just recently bought by the new ceo of Borders. The asking price was 1,300,000. The house is about 7500 sq feet seven bedrooms, beautiful yard and grounds, really as grand a house as one would find in Palmer pk Boston-Ed or Indian village. Thre location is what makes the difference. The fact that the asking price of the Fisher house is so close to the asking price of the Barton hills house tells me it is too high.

Btw the house in Barton hills also has auto company connections; it was the home of Kaiser of the Kaiser-willys company.

Its a 14,000 sq. foot home in one of Detroit's premier neighborhoods.. this home would sell for millions more in some neighboring communities...I dont think that 1.2 million is low for the house, or the neighborhood, however obviously any potential buyers would have to get over the stigma of the city, and may opt to build a McMansion in the burbs instead...thats a shame

Really guys, it is what the market will bear, and very little is moving in BE right now, There are 900 homes in the neighborhood and more that 100 are sitting empty. The bubble was never very big in Detroit anyway, but it has burst as has the bubble in most of the country. I did speak to the BE lawyer the other day, and she said he NEZ stuff went through and will go into effect in January. That should help sales.

Hello as well Cafe!

While I believe that the news of the NEZ will help sales in January, I don't think we will see it on our tax bills until the July bill. That's my understanding.

Hey you two.

Magnasco, I know your house is up for sale too. Have you had many lookers? Is your neighborhood going to benefit from the NEZ stuff? When are you coming to Germany? Patrick and I miss your company.

The Charles Fisher mansion has "hand pntd ceilings." You don't see that so much any more since they came up with painting robots...

Hi!

It is up for sale and we did have some interest early in the summer, but we were unable to make any deals happen due to low comps. It is hard being at the top end of a neighborhood in Detroit right now. While the house may be worth every penny due to the size, materials and crafstmanship, the surrounding neighborhood value determines whether it is worth it or not. OF course the Fisher Mansion will be no exception.

Our house will be in an NEZ area, and so I think we will have some success in selling it, but it may not happen until next year. We are going to need to wait for the surrounding houses to start showing an increase in value rather than a decrease.

One of the problems is that many of the houses in these neighborhoods have so much equity that they can sell short and still make a profit, which is killing comps. Such is life.

Was going to look up the tax info for this house but can't find the address.

One thing I did see on tha tax pages for Boston Blvd, since it was talked about before, 150 Boston has a taxable value of $80,000. Isn't that sweet. Their taxes are lower than mine. They are probably mad as all hell about that $300 garbage fee raising their taxes.
