Not sure if this goes here or Detroit Connections, but Putnam is in Livingston County (Metro Detroit).

Anyway, I knew politics attract some unsavory characters, but this takes the case. What a bizarre story:

Putnam candidate held in assault of security guard

August 26, 2006

Valerie Olander / The Detroit News

The Democratic candidate for township supervisor is being held in Washtenaw County Jail in connection with a brutal assault of a late-night security guard at an auto dealership.

Shane Roscoe, 41, could face an attempted homicide charge today, police said.

Roscoe, who has an extensive criminal background dating back to a 1983 unarmed robbery conviction in Wayne County, was arrested Thursday while Livingston and Washtenaw Sheriff's deputies searched his home on M-36 near Cedar Lake Road.

"All I can tell you is we have a 41-year-old Putnam Township man in custody in relation to an assault at the Jim Bradley auto dealership," said Washtenaw County Sheriff's Cmdr. Dave Egeler. "We also have a man by the name of Shane Roscoe in our jail."

The victim, a 55-year-old Lodi Township man, is at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor in serious condition, Egeler said.

A woman who answered the phone at Jim Bradley Pontiac-Buick-GMC dealership referred all questions to new owner, Jim Allen, who did not return calls on Friday.

A dealership worker found the victim unconscious and severely injured "as a result of a beating or being run over by a vehicle" about 5:30 a.m. Aug. 18, according to the Ann Arbor News.

Roscoe has served sentences for burglary, receiving and concealing stolen property and felonious assault in Ionia, Livingston, Oakland and Wayne counties, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections. His most recent jail stint ended December 2003.

Roscoe, owner of a transmission business, is running against Republican Ron Rau, 45, for the remaining two-year term to replace Supervisor Dick Knopf.
