Sorry to say this, but I do not like looking out at the river from the Ren Cen and seeing CASINO in bright red letters. I am sure there are parts of the view that are unpleasant to everyone, on both sides, this just happens to be mine. |

Hey Cafe!! What's wrong with Casino Windsor at the riverfront?? A while ago,I did hear that the permanent casinos in Detroit were going to locate at the riverfront but that never happen. You just mad because Casino Windsor is expanding their's with two hotel towers!!! |

Hi NellonFury! Nothing is wrong with the casino, I don't like the HUGE letters with the view. A sign and view preference. |

It doesn' t look like it is illuminated, so that one wouldn't bother me. How did he get that picture? Helo? I have never noticed it at night. |

Sadly, that sign has come down. As for the expansion, the gov't might as well have saved their money. With the smoking ban and increased tolls (good job Windsor gov't! Way to put the last nail in the coffin.) attendance is already way down. |

Goat, I can't disagree with your assessment of the smoking ban and toll increases, however the city will benefit from the new convention centre. Let's face it: Windsor got the province to build it a fancy new convention centre and that should help the city attract Canadian conferences. |

It isn't any worse than the old "Stop, Stay, Save, Play" Windsor sign that I remember...... |

Thanks, Andrew for finding that blast from the past. Two questions. 1) didn't the sign flash? Strikes me that part of it changed to say "Windsor" and b) how long has it been gone? |

Good question Douglas, I'm not sure if it flashed. It was gone by the time I moved here in 1989. So it must have been long before that. It is on top of the Tunnel Ventilation buidling, that is currently undergoing a full rehab. The buildings in the foreground were replaced with a travelodge hotel. The hotel was built in 1985, but I think the block was already vacant. The tall wide building in that block was Windsor's Opera House at one time. Like Detroit's it too was converted into a Department Store. |
