Hi. Long time lurker, first time poster.

Anyhoo, I just drove by Agave and see that it's closed. I know that this was posted twice before, but I really, really wanted to drive home the fact that Agave is closed.

Also, can any of you recommend a decent restaurant in Detroit?

Agave has closed? Detroit has restaurants? Black people moving into Livonia?

WHAT IS GOING ON?

Had dinner at the Atlas on Saturday. Really good. Expensive, but good. I love the view onto the street, similar to Agave.

Twingo's might be set to become the new Agave.

As far as good resturants in Detroit. For crying out loud, too many to mention.

I only suggest restaurants that are part of ground floor retail with attached parking. :-)

Since Agave closed And after the landlord fixes up the place. It may want a hip cool resturant for hip cool skinny college kids with thier neo-gothic long hairdoos, and skinny loose fit blue jeans coated all their skinny white bodies.

You know, they opened a Jimmy Johns restaurant right near my house in Livonia. I hear you can take a date there. They even have outdoor seating.

We Livonians can now enjoy our lunch AND watch the poor, confused people wandering around, wondering why the SMART bus isn't coming. Silly poor people, buy a car!

People, please! I need recommendations for a restauant. Preferably high end, but inexpensive, with a river view, near New Center, with good parking.

Oh, and I have no intention of eating there. We'll be going to the Olive Garden in Novi. But I really want to hear your recommendations.

I always thought Xochimilco in Mexican town was way better than Agave. Better food, better prices...

Wazootyman,

Sometimes poor or other middle income folks can't buy things of what they can't afford. Capitalism is not for every one. In a society, there has to be a safety net for the general welfare of the public or else there would be a civil collapse. It happen before in ancient times and it could happen tommorow.

Thank God that he told us that we are living in the last days. SO BE READY!

Why should SEMOOG do anything to get industry support to pay for transportation downtown resturaunts when they don't have to???

Your YES vote next Tuesday will ensure that our regional transit planners at SEMCOG downtown resturaunts will do even less and do more useless studies.

Your NO vote will mean that the multi-billion dollar freeway plans will go back on the shelf and SMART downtown resturaunts will remain as is.

SEMCOG is confidant that you will vote YES and support the trucking industries downtown resturaunts and Wal-Mart with your limited transportation tax dollars.

I second Atl_runner's pic. Joe Muer's on Gratiot probably put Agave out of business because they're so good.

I've heard the Post Bar in the Madison Theater has good food too.

For an dessert be sure to head over to the fudge shop in Trapper's Alley. It's great watching the crew sing and dance while they make the fudge right before your eyes.

I thought Joe Muer's was on Grand River, no wait maybe it's Griswald. No wonder I can't find it. The place keeps moving. Remember the Faygo Tours on Grand River? That was awesome.

right. After work I'm meeting some people at Skipper's Stray Dog for a beer or two....then it's off to the hopping Rivertown district, in the shadows of the RenCen. We'll start at Bastille Bar for a quick one...mosey over to Franklin Street BC for happy hour noshing....dinner at Rhino....stop into Soup Kitchen for some Bell's on tap, and then go see Blanche and the Demolition Doll Rods at the Sardine Bar. Anyone else joining?

For a really nice evening, I'd recommend the Pontchartrain Wine Cellars...right next to the fire station on Larned. Had a lovely pre-wedding celebration there. And Jim's Garage on Washington Boulevard in the Marquette Building isn't bad either.

If you find yourself in or around Indian Village, try VanDyke Place for a fancy schmanzy outing if Sherman's reservation book at the Harlequin is full...that's our plan, as we are going to an opening at 2-South on capitol park first...then stop by zoot's at 3rd to catch the immigrant suns and other asundry indie noisemakers....from there it is up to AFB and the 8 Ball on Woodward & 7 Mile for some sliders and after hours brew...once sated, swing over and knock on the Motor side door to see what's happening, and then cap off your evening with a few nitrous balloons and a can of tepid busch at the closest available after hours dump in the woodward/willis/garfield locale.

Delray? Who the bleep wants to eat in Delray? Yikes! Obviously non of you are from Detroit. Where is the Cheese Cake Factory? When did Livonia become part of Detroit? Funny people in cities that are not real cities want to call their city Detroit. I guess it is ok to want to be connected.

Mani, for 45 posts in this thread people were recommending restaurants that had been closed for years. You thought they were serious. Even after it was explained to you that it was a joke, you got all defensive about being able to state your opinions.

You have to admit that was pretty funny.

I thought this was a serious post and that is how I was responding? Confused, and I guess not aware that this thread was not for real. I did not read the part that said this was a joke. Also I am not defensive, not sure why you assume that. Anyway, if there was a cheesecake factory (like in chicago) in detroit, I would be excited because, thank buddha I am not fat, I would have to eat it.

If you go to Cafe de Troit, make sure you have already used the bathroom. Oh, and be warned...their cappucino tastes like coffee.

For a fabulous night, catching a performance at the Fisher Theatre, order your drinks at Al Green's for intermission prior to the start of the show. They'll be waiting at your table.

And no night at the Fisher is complete without a walk across the street to Topinka's, if you're hungry, a hearty Turtle Soup will fill you up. Otherwise, the dessert cart choices hit the spot with a wide choice of cocktails by the expert mixologists.

Sorry Itsjeff, had to add one more to the mix. I'll try to be good and not confuse Mani

A hearty Sunday brunch can be had at the Lansdowne, the floating railroad barge restaurant docked at Hart Plaza.

Or for some good old American fare, try the underground Salt Mine on Washington Blvd. or the Bull Market on Lafayette across from the Coney Islands.

I heard the owner's son worked behind the bar at Cafe de Troit. Of course, she was only 15 when she gave birth to the little baseball nut...she was such a slut.

The International in GreekTown. One of the most "real" places you ever want to go.

Try the vegetarian plate.

This thread is making me very hungry

and sad.

If you like Agave then you'll love Applebees. Sometimes there is a line at Applebees. If you don't want to wait, I suggest going across to the Ruby Tuesdays in the other strip mall. It's a little more expensive (50 to 75 cents per portion) but still good. For really special occasions I recommend Bennigans.

Anyone care to meet me at the London Chop House first? Then we can go clubbing at Todd's.

BTW, the Landsdowne has become the Baja Beach Club, complete with bungie jumping.

shhh. we don't discuss Shelly.

Sorry, I'm no longer at BSS, I've moved, for the moment, to the urban prairie and industrial wasteland of Delray, where unskilled and semi-skilled are paid too much (according to some on this forum) at a old institution called Kovac's.

I like the La Shish at the casino. Great to have such wonderful shwarma so close to Boston-Edison.

Afterwards, I like to hit the Camellian Cafe for a poetry night, then go to Motor Coty Pit Stop for a hot dog that has been cooking all day.

You guys are all so lowbrow.

The absolute first thing to do when you arrive in Detroit is to visit the tea room at the train station - very relaxing. The lounges are a great place to freshen-up, too. Afterwards, depending on the time of day, either take the Michigan car to the Book-Casino in the Cadillac Hotel or Hudson's mezzanine restaurant for appertifs.

Afterwards, you can walk up Woodward past all the fine shops to the Tele-News and catch up on world events, then continue via Woodward car to the State Fair Grounds where the all-new Packard is on display.

On your way back Downtown, if you feel slightly adventurous, visit an authentic Chinese restaurant in China Town around lower Cass Avenue.

Enjoy!
