detroitteacher, i would call any individual involved in the attack depraved and hideous. "what kind of depraved and hideous individual would see that happen to a child?" nonetheless, such is still an egotistical plea in lieu of a prayer for those affected. that is the point. |

they have been unable to identify the body found in Romulus as Raven as the body has been badly burned: http://freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll /article?AID=/20060808/NEWS99/ 60808015 BTW, just wondering...is there really a difference other than semantics between a 'sick ass' and 'a depraved and hideous individual'? Isn't the point that we all agree the person who did this is disturbed and should fry (that is if we had the death penalty)? |

If the child comes up dead, the person responsible for the crime deserves the DEATH PENALTY! |

I think the death penalty should be a sentencing option for anyone who commits a crime against a child. Several states already have this law in place. |

I have always been against the death penalty in all cases, however right now I believe even I can make an exception to my beliefs. Stories like this anger me just as much as they sadden me. How someone could commit such a horrible act against a child is beyond anything I will ever understand. |

Why do people always differentiate between crimes against children and crimes against adults? I don't care if the victim is 8 or 82, the penalties should be harsh and evenly applied. |

Its for a drug deal vendetta. One of the relatives who do drugs didn't pay back the money for the use of street drugs so the drug dealers retaliated by kiddaping their 7-year-old Raven Jeffries from their ghettohood, took the girl to indisclosed location, problably raped and kill her and later burn her body to cover up the evidence. THAT COULD HAD BEEN A PREJECTION. Most Drug Dealers these days have a policy called "loan or kill." If you don't pay back the money to the drug dealer for the narcotic you use, they would likely kill you or take your kids, or other possessions that you have. |

It's not about differentiating crimes against children vs. crimes against adults. However, children are very vulnerable in society. Adults are children's voices. We must speak on their behalf. Therefore, when a helpless (and voiceless) child is harmed in any degree, there should be an overwhelming outcry. The problem with this society is that we don't value children enough. Therefore, this "off with their heads" battlecry is very appropriate in this case. |

So, in your minds, sociatal justice systems should avenge and revenge crime? I believe that, as a society, we should remove the offender from society in punishment, but society should not seek to avenge the crime. Government exists primarily to protect life, not to decide whether someone should live or die.Taking a life in anger and revenge justs puts us all on the same plane as a murderer. In this case, unless there's an eyewitness (and there appears not to be) who will know for certain that the accused is the one? The Prosecutor says that there are several suspects and several motives. A jury will decide if the the accused is guilty - but with some existential doubt. Even a confession has turned out, in previous cases, to be in error. Under these circumstances, when do we have a collective right to take a life? The accused may not believe that life is sacred - but I do, even an ugly, guilty, twisted life is not mine to take. |

we differentiate between crimes against adulst and children because in general children cannot defend themselves and look to adults for leadership and guidance not violence and killing. Most adults are more cautious and can defend themselves. Neither type of crime is excusable. |

Firefly said: "The problem with this society is that we don't value children enough." Although I agree with that sentiment, the root is that "we don't value LIFE enough." As civilized as we believe ourselves to be in this country, we still live in a violence-orientated society. Czar - I agree with your statements as well - and correct me if I'm wrong - that the crux of your argument is that we often try to "quantify" violent acts, as in a child's life is more "precious" than an adult's etc. We see it everyday. Any loss of life due to the hands of another - regardless of religious views, etc. is unfortunate. And very well said Southwestmap. |
