Where would I get aerial satellite photo’s that I can save to my computer and mess around with in Photoshop…I see other people have done this recently with stuff like the “New Olympia” thread, and I used to use Yahoo, but they do not do satellite anymore, does anyone have a website I could do this at? |

Download Google Earth. I believe that is what most of these guys have been using lately. |

Or if you don't want to download, Google Maps is basically Google Earth without the software and special features. Then take a screenshot with Print Screen. |

I am a staunch supporter of Google, but for this case, I have to hand it to Microsoft. For a limited area downtown Detroit, they have what's called a "Bird's Eye View". This is an aerial photo, taken from four directions, with outstanding quality. Go to: http://local.live.com/, type in Detroit, and zoon way in to like Comerica Park. Instead of just having the "Aerial" and "Road", that extra feature is available. You browse it in sections. It is awesome. Very recent... YMCA is nearly complete, Opera House garage is about 1/2 constructed. Hope this helps. |

Slightly off topic, but to support Google, I'm not sure if anyone has used the new Google SketchUp software. It is in a word: amazing. It is also free and very easy to use, and directly interfaces with Google Earth. Allows at a basic level to demonstrate form of infil, etc for an application like TKelly's. More advanced, you can design engineering-quality elevation views and plans, with dimensions, for anything from a bolt to a skyscraper. Addictive... could spend hours a day messing with this. It's like drawing a SimCity (<-- dork)! http://sketchup.google.com/ |
