I know recently a couple of sites have popped up concerning bars in detroit. Some of them just give little snippits of information, and some of them have reader reviews. 313rd makes bars pay to advertize and dont really give reviews, the new after 5 site is all just reader reviews and is pretty cheesy and the urban flavor newsletter just tells about events in the area but never gives people information about what is worthwhile and what isnt. I think they all blow and im in the works to start up a site that will give honest listings and ratings about bars in metro detroit in hopes that the more popular the site becomes, the more the bars will take notice and make themselves better. No matter if you think the site is a dumb idea or not, what types of ratings/information would you like to know about bars in the metro area? |

I'm working on a detroit-centric website that would include nightlife info, among other things. Perhaps we could collaborate. email me newlaster@gmail.com |

Initially, it will be non-profit. I'm a journalism student and I really want to have a media outlet where I have creative control and don't have to worry about censorship. If the site really took off, I'd consider selling advertising. I was thinking of a site focused on news, observations, community, humor and nightlife. I have a domain name reserved, but I need to work out webhosting and brush up on my web design skills. I want to focus on lower Detroit (below Grand BLVD) and cater to 18-35 year olds. It's still pretty preliminary. I'd love to set up some brainstorming sessions. |

After5Detroit.com does a decent job, it is advertising based and metro focused; but does a nice job featuring spots downtown. |

Newlaster, You should send an email to the folks at Inside Detroit (info@insidedetroit.org. They have a pretty comprehensive list of downtown spots and I know they helped After 5 get connected in Detroit. |

Thanks Harmonie, Mauser.. Yes D_stylin. That sounds great. We should get together and bounce ideas off eachother. I have all the time in the world since I just lost my job. Let's get together sometime at Amersterdam Espresso or something. Let me know. My email address is a couple posts up in this thread. |
