I am new to the forum so my apologies if there is already a thread about this (I haven't figured out how to search yet).
Does anyone know the current ownership/status of the Boat Club on Belle Isle? It's in terrible condition but, the location is unbeatable. The last thing I heard was years ago and it was that a development group from NY was going to renovate it.
Does the City still own it?

Any information will be interesting. Thanks...

It is owned by the city and rented out by the Detroit Rowing Club.

Hi Kiplinger,

Scroll down on the left navigation bar (yes, your left). You will see 2 search functions just above Emmanuel Lasky's picture. Search Forum and Search Detroityes. Enjoy.

I believe the exterior condition is worse than the interior condition. The woodwork in the lobby is spectacular.

We were married there 11 years ago and they closed down shortly after that. I have seen the rowing club there in the evening but was hoping that the building would be redeveloped as a restaurant or social club/restaurant with boat access. There's nothing in Detroit like this that isn't members only. Thanks for the info and the search tutorial!

Seems every time I drive by there, there's cars in the parking lot and the lights are on. especially on the weekends.

Sinbads and The Roostertail come to mind.

The Boat Club has been closed for quite a while but they still have a membership that gathers monthly at different locations for social get-togethers.
I know of one couple in GP who are quite active in the organization.

The group from NY was actually from Detroit. The firm that was putting together a proposal for the Detroit Boat Club and the former Armory has gone out of business so I guess their proposal is out of business too.

You're right Toolbox - I completely forgot about Sinbads. The Roostertail is for rental only isn't it?
Bvos - which Armory? The one on 8 mile near Greenfield? I thought that was going to be condos.

He may have been referring to the Broadhead Naval Armory just east of the landward side of the bridge, and directly across from the Boat Club.

Yup, I was refering to the Broadhead Armory across the river. It was supposed to be part of the deal with the boat club.

I row with DBC-- there are various active rowing programs right now: Learn to Row, Recreational Rowing, Master's Rowing, and then the high school program. There are practices of one sort or another pretty much every day of the week.

The building is in much better shape on the inside than the outside, but it still needs some love all over...
